"Very nice and clean apartment is. Very spacious.I love it"
"Hello everyone. I am very sorry for this place. I came on business from Illinois and booked a room here for a week. I came here and could not enter the apartment because the appendix says that you need to go to the door and press the combination lock, but it is not on the door because the door has a simple lock. also, I could not get through to the owner and take the key to the apartment and no one knows how to get through. I really do not recommend contacting them because even the refund was not given to me in full"
"My husband and I came across Barclay Apartments through Step-Up Durham. We originally met with Stephen and signed a Low Income -Licensing Agreement for 6 months, based on income and there were a few more rules than a normal lease. The first 6 months were great, even through COVID. The people we rent from gave us a Microwave, couch, anything else we needed. They are easy to talk to! Stephen (landlord), Amber (Office), and Craig (Maintenance) have all been extremely wonderful to work with! As long as you reach out to them if you are having any trouble with anything: stove not working, toilet clogged, and especially during COVID: possibly late on rent, they are very understanding and go above and beyond to help you out. With this being my first time renting, they have made this by far the best experience! I Love the location as it is literally a 5 minute drive to any of my 4 work locations, or a 20 minute walk to any of them. Plus there is a Food Lion, Dollar General, Thrift Store, and a 24hr store all in walking distance! My one and only suggestion: since I went through a housing program based on income, then the stress of my husband losing his job during COVID and taking on my step son more and more (also Covid related), our lease amount practically stayed the same. Our rent is half of my income, and for a 550 sqft apartment. It is pretty high and I know I cannot stay another 6 months once my lease runs out, but I love the location and the people who run the place. I just cannot afford this, after rent and my other bills, I'm always in the negative! -- which makes my credit worse. I hate to leave such a great team of people and a great location (close to my jobs and my husbands job), but we need something with two bedrooms (one for my step-son), and one that is worth the price; not over priced, and not underpriced like something will break any second. Shoot, If this place would drop our rent down another $100 -$150, we would definitely consider staying!"
"The managing staff is really friendly but they don’t do much to combat the pests in the building. If you have pets, you MUST be in the until while they spray or else they’ll just skip over your apartment. Better to move here if you don’t have pets so that you can regularly bomb the place, otherwise be prepared to become a master bug killer, because they will be everywhere. They are renovating the building and keeping the prices at a pretty great point, but there is no washer/dryer or dishwasher so really think about that when you consider this place as well. And finally, don’t move into this place and buy new things. This is the apartment you want to furnish with cheap, second hand goods that you wouldn’t mind leaving behind if necessary because unless the pest problem can be better addressed, you’ll likely have to toss everything when you move. Aside from that, the apartment layout is really great and the location isn’t too far from downtown Durham. There’s a washroom in the back of the building and a laundromat that is literally one minute away, along with a food lion and beauty supply store. The biggest reason for my decision to move really has to do with my desire to get back into Raleigh and away from the bugs. Since I have pets, I’m really limited in what I can do to combat them."
