"Overall we had a great stay. The hotel is beautiful, we have a soft spot for old buildings. It’s clean, the staff is friendly. We ate at the restaurant and it was great. But the neighboring bar is the problem. One in particular had loud music and bass going all night long, it made it hard to get a good night sleep unfortunately."
"We booked the Esquire for our wedding weekend, and it was absolutely perfect! Our rooms were very comfortable (yes small, but that was expected) and close to everything that we needed to do in Gastonia. We also held our rehearsal dinner at Barrister’s. Both the food and the atmosphere were incredible! If you are debating booking a dinner or event here- DO IT. We look forward to visiting again! *please note- the outside traffic does get loud at night. We were not bothered as we are heavy sleepers; however, this may bother others. The hotel is not responsible for any of this noise."
"I wish I could give more stars, but the location of this hotel is its downside. The staff was very welcoming and the rooms were nice. They preserved a lot of the historic charm while also modernizing the hotel. There isn’t much to walk to in the area, but maybe that will change if more businesses open downtown. The Esquire is next to a few bars that get very loud late into the night on weekends. The hotel doesn’t have soundproofing or double-pane windows. We had a street-facing room several floors up and were unable to sleep until after 2 AM each night because the noise (live music, motorcycles, conversations) was so loud from the bars. It would’ve been a nice stay if we’d been able to sleep. I don’t want to hurt the hotel’s business as it seems that they are making the best of things, but I do think people should be aware of the noise problem before booking here."
"Stayed for a wedding weekend. The historic building really added another level of fun to the celebration. Shout out to the lady at the front desk. I had a problem with my dress. She found a sewing kit and was on her knees trying to help me. My only complaint is the loud music from a bar next door. One night it went on until 2 AM."
"Super cute hotel. Very historic and charming. Rooms are a bit small. There aren’t any desk in the room to sit and work. It’s pretty much just for sleeping. The location is cute. But the town seems a bit behind. There’s a great restaurant nearby if you’re looking for dinner options. Don’t have to go too far."
