About the Business
The Ephraim Bales Cabin, located on the Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, is a historic homestead that offers a glimpse into the challenging life of early settlers in the Great Smoky Mountains. The cabin, once home to Ephraim Bales, his wife, and nine children, is a "dog-trot" style cabin with two separate living spaces connected by a shared roof. The Bales family lived on this land from around 1890 until it was purchased by the government in 1930 for inclusion in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. "I loved this place. I could imagine the way the family lived, and it felt like I had a peek into their lives. The cabin is located next to the river, so it is all around gorgeous. It's worth walking through and reading about the family."
"Pretty cool !!! Stop there... walk thru the 1890 hand hewn house built in & lived in from 1890 - 1930. THEN, .... carefully trek on down to the rockie, beautiful mountain stream.... water shoes, your option. The rocks are kinda slippery.... so watch your steps. Still, it's a good stop and breathe the clean, fresh mountain air."
"It was very interesting to read about a woman and her 9 kids that lived in this little place. It's a great place to see what the times were like back then. The cabin itself is so simple yet so fascinating"
"Quaint cabin along the Roaring Forks trail. You can actually walk inside the cabin and see how dark it is. Outside a a corn bale, a barn and down a path you can see beautiful streams with running water. Very peaceful and tranquil. No admission cost. Be aware of the fact that some tour companies use this place as a scenic visiting spot."
"Love this place. Doesn't matter how many people are roaming around it's still so serene and beautiful. I'm 99% sure this is the era that I should have been born in. They wouldn't have known what to do with me."
