"I am highly disappointed by the customer service and my stay at the Holiday Inn Express. This was 2nd time at the property (first time stayed at the resort), but this was the first time at the Holiday Inn Express. I will start with the most traumatizing of the experience. My child and I left came in to the property perfectly fine but after 24 hours had numerous bites all over our bodies. Mine were worse and required an urgent care visit upon returning home, which included steroids and antibiotics. When we first noticed the bites, I immediately reported this to the front desk staff. They were shocked but tried to assist by giving first aid supplies. No one came to check the room or suggested maintenance come to assess. We weren't offered a new room. Two different people stated they would notify the manager and have them get in contact with me to remedy the situation. We checked out on a Sunday. I called Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Each day I was told either the manager was not there or they were going to call me back. I have yet to hear from anyone. In addition to the nasty bites, the pool heater was broken. So unfortunately my 2 year old was not able to enjoy the amenities. And what was booked as an adjoining room a month prior, and confirmed twice ended up being two separate rooms across the hall from each other. Very inconvenient when traveling with a family. I would not recommend this hotel based on how they handled (although more accurate to say have not handled) the situation caused by a pest problem they obviously have. Considering I am still suffering from 2 severe legs wounds after my holiday spent here, I don't think its worth the health risk, hygienic risk or poor customer service. Turned out to be a nightmare stay."
"We were staying for a cheer competition. This hotel is the first I’ve ever stayed in that declined a late checkout. Literally needed one hour due to the way the schedule failed. Thomas at the desk declined the request. There were stains on the bed blanket, stains on the towel, and pubic hair on the wall. The air unit wouldn’t do anything but blow ice cold air regardless of what setting or temp you put it on. The location is super convenient but we would rather walk a little further next time."
"We stayed here one night en route from Michigan to South Carolina. The rooms were huge and more than adequate for a single-night stopover. It also seemed quite clean. However, the shower in our room did not work - it seemed that only the hot water was connected, not the cold, so there was only a trickle of scalding-hot water coming out of the shower head. It was borderline impossible to take a shower there. We called the front desk, and they said they could probably move us to another room, but at that point we had already unpacked our things and undressed, as we had assumed the shower would work. Fortunately, we were traveling with my parents, who were in another room, and we were able to use the shower in their room. My second issue was the breakfast. I don't expect a 5-star dining experience at a Holiday Inn. However, I was very disappointed in the free "breakfast". Everything was served on styrofoam plates with plastic, disposable cutlery - very wasteful. I was hoping for some scrambled eggs, at least, but all I found was some rubbery, pre-cooked omelettes with fake, processed "cheese" product inside. My boyfriend also thought the sausage tasted like it was mostly fillers, not even real meat. The biscuits weren't terrible, but they were kind of gluey and not the most pleasant to eat. I will say that we live in Europe and may have less of a tolerance for highly processed foods than the average American, but still. Overall, was not impressed with the service (no one even seemed remotely apologetic about the unusable shower) or the breakfast offering. The only real positives were the cleanliness and size of the room and (I guess) the proximity to the strip in downtown Gatlinburg."
"Pros: Walking distance to downtown Gatlinburg. Ample parking available. Free breakfast. Cons: Although the splash pad area was great for kids, the water was super cold. The water in the shower doesn't get very hot and there is almost no shower pressure. Even though it is a no smoking hotel, there was constantly people standing outside the doors smoking so you had to walk through puffs of smoke to enter. Highlight for us was seeing a bear outside while we used the hot tub next door."
