Arborcrest Gardens is a 26-acre botanical research garden located in Boone, North Carolina, at the foot of Howard's Knob mountain near Appalachian State University. Established in 1989 by Ron and Cheryl Stanley, this non-profit private garden is dedicated to nurturing the wonders of nature. With over three decades of experience, the team at Arborcrest Gardens has grown and evaluated over 15,000 different species and cultivars of trees, shrubs, perennials, ground covers, and bulbs.
Visitors can explore the gardens on Fridays by advance reservation, with riding tours beginning on Good Friday, March 29th. The one-hour educational tour, conducted via electric shuttles on paved trails, offers insight into the diverse plant species, gardening tips, and rare plants in bloom. Groups of garden lovers are also welcome to visit Arborcrest Gardens.

"A hidden gem right outside of downtown Boone. 26 incredible acres of well thought out garden space. This is a privately owned garden so reservations are required since parking is limited. You can request a guided tour on a golf cart or you can choose to walk around at your leisure. This has quickly become one of my favorite places in the high country! Plus all of their plants have tags on them with their scientific names! A great learning opportunity!"
"Arborcrest Garden is truly a hidden gem in Boone! It is hard to believe you are practically in downtown Boone! We took the guided riding tour. It was wonderful! Our driver, Josh, was so friendly and knowledgeable of the history and plants in the garden. Arborcrest was a highlight of our trip. We hope to visit again!"
"Amazing garden! We took my mom for her birthday to tour this garden and she was overwhelmed, delighted, and we all fell in love with this private residence. So well laid out with so many evergreens and rare conifers! Our guide, Hanna, met us at the parking lot, answered our questions and she was an excellent, informed greeter.
