"I have been going Hwa Yuan for years now. It is my favorite Chinese restaurant in the city. Their food, service, atmosphere, and sanitation are above the average. The staffs at Hwa Yuan never fail to exceed my expectations. They always warmly welcome customers. Plus, they will be happy to explain about the food, and how to enjoy them. I usually get peking duck which is crispy and delicious. But this time, I ordered Dry Sauteed Tangy Crispy Beef (Always), Mapo Tofu w/ Pork, Cold Noodles in Sesame Sauce (Always), Double Sauteed Pork Belly. All of them are delicious. It was my first time trying their Double Sauteed Pork Belly. I liked how it was served with buns. I never tasted buns taste this good. They are so soft and cloudy..? I wish I had a better word to explain the texture. They pair absolutely well with pork belly and veggie. Mapo Tofu tastes very authentic with little bit of spiciness. Cold Noodle is nutty and appetizing. Tangy Crispy Beef is impressive with its crispy perfection. For food portions, I usually order half peking duck, cold noodle, tangy beef, and one more dish for two people. With this much portions, I walk out the door with my full belly and some leftovers to go. Hwa Yuan is a top choice for those seeking an elevated Szechuan dining experience in New York City. Very recommended!"

"An attempt at Chinese fine dining, white table cloth, red wood table and chairs, modern decoration, attentive staff. Problem is only trait the food have with fine dining is in the very small portions, especially on this block compared to nearby restaurants. String beans is withered, fried stringy beef and pork belly overly sauced. The "Peking Duck" is for the tourists, at best roasted duck, and cut up as such, much of fat not rendered, skin saggy instead of crispy. Two good items us the wrap is correct, thin translucent, right moisture; and mapo tufo is silky and tender."
