"Definitely on the fancy-end of dining, lots of people in suits. The steak tartar was perfect with the anchovies, and my burger was exactly how I asked for it. The real surprise was the crab gumbo, which was delightfully spicy. I'm not really into the atmosphere personally, but I have no complaints about the food."
"I had my 30th birthday meal here which was fantastic. The steaks were to die for as was the service. A real treat of a New York chop house with smartly dressed clientele. Absolutely fabulous and I would highly recommend the Grill for a dinner or a celebratory event if you don’t mind spending big bucks."
"I’ll keep it simple and rate the food items out of ten. Pumpkin soup 7/10 very rich and delish but 30$ is a bit steep. Pasta ala presse 10/10 absolutely divine, white truffle over egg omelet 1/10 worst thing we got there easy skip for 165$. Guinea hen 9/10 not a fan of foie gras but the rest was excellent. Prime rib 7/10 it was just ok nothing too special for my taste. Lamb solid 8/10 the jelly they had complementing the dish was surprisingly delicious. The experience as a whole was excellent the only blemish being the truffle dish that my server pushed pretty hard."
"My wife and I had a single night in Manhattan recently. As we were staying on 5th Avenue, we decided to make reservations at The Grill as it was an easy walk. Upon entering, we found the staff welcoming and gracious. We were shown to our table in an expeditious manner. We asked to see the Sommelier as we wished to get our wine (2017 Margaux) breathing. Willie came to the table and was very helpful in getting the process started. He also recommended superb cocktails. John our dining Captain came and introduced himself. John is a pro. Terrific! My wife began with the Champagne cocktail. Delicious. I wanted an old fashioned and was talked into the version with The Grill’s signature bourbon. Oh my, was it good. We started with the Avacado Crab Louis prepared at our table. Off the charts delicious. So fresh and plentiful. We then moved into the next course, Pasta a la Presse, again prepared table side. This was the highlight of the evening’s menu. Everything was amazing but this was sinfully delicious. With our ribeye for two we had the mushrooms and steamed spinach. The steak was very good. Not the best that we have had but superb nonetheless. The bread service was equally amazing. My wife is a skilled baker but had to admit that the dinner rolls were better than hers. We finished with the baked Alaska table side…a must. The service was exceptional. We were ‘touched’ by no fewer than 6 associates. We never felt rushed and we took our time and paced ourselves. We plan to head back to Manhattan next Christmastime, we will definitely eat at The Grill again. Well done!"
"Still as iconic as ever, even with the change in name. And perhaps ironically, while it’s a steak house, it was the crab cake and the pasta a la presse that were the stars of the night. All the natural sweetness of the crab with the texture brought forth by the thinly slice potatoes and all without the heavy touch you would usually find in most crab cakes - this is perfection in a dish. And the pasta - it’s a showpiece dish to see the carcass reduced to a bowl of jul right in front of you.. a tad schadenfreude if I may say, then toss in the pasta that brings about an explosion of flavors. There is the steak of course and there’s nothing wrong with it of course - the NY strip is a joy, perfectly medium rare, perfectly seasoned but it just meets the (high) bar one would expect. Service is of course impeccable with David a wonderful somm to make sure we have the right wine to go with the night."
