"This company prices by assemblies, not time and material. No special consideration for the disounts for mobilization, time and travel discounts when you are on site performing multiple assemblies. That being said, they charged us $2.2k to do 1.75 hours of work with about a total of $100 in parts. The next day, our water was backing up into the sink and the day after was coming into the floor through the dishwasher. Also, the rim of the garbage disposal and drain baskets were seated crooked in our new double sink we purchased with our new countertops. Being NYE, we were expecting 30+/- guests. So we called for an emergency warranty call. They said they had no one available and Warranty calls were usually handled during the week, not on weekends and stated they could not send anyone to our house for the warranty call until Tuesday. Considering the issues and our timeline, my boyfriend was left with no choice but to take drain hoses off and fixed the drainage issues himself. Of course this voided our warranty with them. I've used this company in the past and they were not like this then. Extremely disappointed with the pricing and the quality of the work."
"I requested an inspection on my HVAC unit since I had not done it since purchasing my home 4 years ago, and within the same day they sent Mr. Blackburn out to check out my system. He quickly and easily addressed my concerns, while allowing me to hover over his shoulder and watch what he was doing since I was curious and had never seen some of the things he was looking at. He was very informative about each thing he looked at, explaining it as he went, and even explained a couple of basic things that I could do myself that I had not previously done. Professional and amicable, I will call on A-1 and Mr. Blackburn's services again when the need arises. Thanks for the peace of mind, sir!"
"Final update: After seeing A-1's response to this review, I felt a follow up was necessary. Based on the photos I took before A-1's tech serviced my HVAC unit and the technical manuals from the OEM, the correct capacitor is 45 uF (microfarads). The capacitor installed by A-1, as shown in the photo, was 35 uF. Only a couple days after A-1 installed the incorrectly sized capacitor, my AC unit struggled to start. Clearly, the capacitor installed by A-1 was the wrong capacitance and not suitable for my unit. The amount of money A-1 charges for same day services is absurd. That is exacerbated by the fact that their technicians clearly don't know what they're doing OR don't care to do it correctly. I'd strongly recommend steering clear of A-1 for HVAC services or otherwise. Update 2: Well, a couple days after A-1 replaced the capacitor, the AC fan motor wouldn't come on so I engaged an alternative company. The tech replaced the capacitor (again) and mentioned that it looked like the original capacitor wasn't ever replaced. Curious. A week or so later my AC has stopped working entirely. It seems A-1 installed the incorrect capacitor and the second company just swapped one for one like is expected. A-1's mistake has now caused me two separate AC failures in the course of a couple weeks. What a waste of money and horrible experience this has been. Update: A-1 has gotten in touch with me and has lowered the price to a much more reasonable sub-$600 figure. Considering it's middle of summer and an emergent call, I do feel this is a much more reasonable cost for the work done. The tech and office staff were kind and respectful but I do feel that without this review and the follow up from office staff that I would have overpaid for the work done. Original post: Had A-1 come out after an unexpected HVAC unit compressor failure. They charged nearly $600 to install a new capacitor claiming they did a low voltage ground check and another $600 to install a hard start kit. The material cost is less than $50 and it took them less less than 10 minutes. And I don't think I ever saw them even use a multimeter. Over $1100 for about 10 minutes of plug & play electrical work? I regret ever calling them and wish I had done it myself or called a more reasonable company. Edit - Just went out and looked at the work they did. The hard start kit (little black clyinder in the pic) wasn't even secured to anything. Just stuffed into the wiring. Not the quality of workmanship I expected."
"My AC stopped working and then I called A1 the next day. They had a technician come out the day after and he gave us a few options plus a military discount. He was very confident and efficient. He came out the following day and replace my whole AC stop system within five hours. I definitely would recommend Jake Blackburn to anyone with any AC issues. I definitely will use this company in the future if I have to again."
"Jake Blackburn came in and installed our brand new a.c. unit . His expertise is phenomenal, he new exactly what the problem was right away. He does great work I would definitely recommend him. And he was professional and explained to me every step of the way . With a fast return time . Thumbs up!!"
