"Building management kicked us out of our parking spots multiple times, mostly for construction. During covid the building closed the gym and roof - the only outdoor access residence had - and didn’t offer any kind of compensation for the loss of amenities. Management was impossible to get a hold of and just unpleasant in general. Don’t recommend supporting this business until they hire enough staff to manage their properties appropriately."
"Have only lived here for 2 weeks and already has been the WORST experience. If you are looking to rent here… run! My car was vandalized in the gated garage. Management did absolutely nothing. I had to reach out multiple times before someone would answer me. Just to find out the security cameras they have DONT WORK. $250 a month for parking, my car should be secure!! Now I am stuck with fixing the damage to my car for $500+ God forbid something bad happens to a person out in the gated parking. Very unsafe and the lack of concern is just horrifying. Especially since I was promised that the old manager was let go and that everything would be much better than the reviews. HA!"
"Lived here almost 6 months and it was the worst 6 month of my renting life for the past 8 years. Awful buildings awful management and just simply unlivable situation. My partner and I lived in a one bedroom paying 1700+ dollar and our bedroom were leaking the whole time and we ended up having to stay in the livingroom. The management lied to multiple renter that our room was brand new and in reality the room has been rented out before, WAS LEAKING ALREADY, yet they continue to rent out to others with ridiculously high price. DO NOT TRUST THEM, YOU WILL WASTE YOUR MONEY, WASTE YOUR LIFE TIME TO MOVE AGAIN SOON."
"My girlfriend and I chose The Western last summer after a fast and furious 72 hour apartment search, where we drove across the country and managed to view 24 units. Georgia was the leasing agent that showed us our unit that day and she was awesome - professional and accommodating. We both had our list of necessities and this place provided the best combination of needs and wants. We have massive ceilings, modern design, top quality appliances, W/D, HVAC, massive floor to ceiling windows in the living room providing great natural light with a killer skyline view. The units for the most part are pretty well soundproofed - on an extremely rare occasion do we hear anything through the walls. The front door lets sound in but there's creative ways to solve that problem. The location is great, we love Bucktown, great bars, restaurants and hang out spots in and around this neighborhood, the 606 is a quarter mile away, lots of parks, great community. What really put the place over the top for us was the rooftop. The view of the skyline is absurd. You can see Wrigley and the UC. The outdoor space has grills, firepit, bocce ball and a dog run. The indoor space has a couple tvs, lounge area, kitchen, shuffleboard, and tables to hang out/do work/study. They just finished the renovation project, and while it was shut down for longer than we liked, we're excited to see the improvements. Other amenities include a fitness space with dumbbells and cardio machines, parking space if you're lucky enough to get it, and a bike storage room which I'll soon be using. In terms of management, we've not had any issues. Joshua and his staff are highly communicative which really helped in the selection process given we were finalizing this from 800 miles away. The maintenance team does an incredible job keeping the building clean inside and out, and service requests are always responded to in a timely manner. When we first moved in we had a short list of things to be addressed and everything was fixed within the week, most requests within 48 hours. We get that people have bad experiences and those are usually the first to jump on and give a 1 star review, but for me and Aubrey we couldn't be any happier we chose this place for our first home together in our favorite city. We gave 4 stars because of the rooftop situation as that added some stress not having a place to zone out and study as she finished up her Masters, but with the improvements we anticipate that not being an issue going forward and look forward to a 5 star next year here!"
"Recently lived in this building. The pros: building is relatively new. The cons: Management was horrible. Building was broken into, bikes were stolen and they didn't inform the tenants. Front door lock wasn't working one night, and it took the management over 24 hours to come and fix. In the interim, anyone was able to walk into the building off the street. And there are homeless and drug addicts in the ally behind the building, so not having the door locked is a big deal. It was overpriced when I moved in but has since come down in price. Building management changed 2 times during my 15 months. There is new management now but I would say the experience has been the same. For instance, paid utilities for January to the old management and then the new management is trying to charge me again for the January utilities, been 2 months of back and forth and still not resolved. When I moved in the elevator was lockable during move-in/ move-out. Now it is not so it cost me an additional $200 in moving fees to move out. Cleaned the entire apartment when I left and still got a $120 cleaning fee. When I moved in they served donuts and coffee on first Friday of the Month but then stopped. But it wasn't like they sent out an email saying it would be discontinued. They just stopped cold Turkey without telling anyone. Also, the train is really loud on the west facing side of the building. Those apartments also get really hot in the summer because of the sun. The door pad did not work when I moved in. There was supposed to be an app-enabled way to allow your guests into the building. It never worked, it was never fixed, so to let anyone in the building you had to go down and greet them. I had issues accepting deliveries because of this and I think about 5 times my deliveries were sent back to the sender because they couldn't access the building. I just think you should avoid this place at all costs. I think of it like a pit, where all your money and happiness will get swallowed into."
