Hanover Alewife

"What a fraud! Hanover Alewife markets itself as offering luxury apartments with “exquisite designer touches, such as custom wood cabinetry.” Really? Does laminate cabinetry with fake woodgrained contact paper in the kitchen and bathrooms fit that definition?. The deception does not stop there, however. Does ignoring pot smoking for 4 ½ months in its “luxury” apartments fit the bill of a “100% smoke-free” and “drug free” community? For the last several months, the tenant in the apartment next to ours smoked pot nearly every day, throughout the day, with the noxious fumes invading our apartment as well as the hallways and elevator lobby on our floor. Hanover didn’t want to spend the money to exercise its rights to evict the tenant, however; they just wrote a "formal lease violation letter" to the tenant. When we complained, Hanover hired a lawyer to tell us that it was basically not their problem as it was caused by “third parties violating the lease agreement.” No apology for having to put up with it for 4 ½ months, no monetary relief, no acknowledgement of its utter failure to ensure a habitable living space through enforcement of its supposed strict anti-smoking and anti-drug use provisions. We asked that our lease be terminated so that we can move to a pot-free, smoke free location. Hanover’s response? Sure, as long as you pay about $10,000 in early termination fees. Hanover is an unresponsive, ineffective landlord, and we will be vacating Hanover Alewife as soon as we can."

"I absolutely love living at Hanover Alewife! Aside from the convenience of being close to Whole Foods, trader’s joe and fresh pond and other parks, plus Alewife station, the management team is fantastic and always goes above and beyond to make sure all residents are happy and satisfied. The amenities are wonderful and have remained available at a decent rate even after the pandemic. The management team aLeah’s organize fantastic meet and greet events that really brings the community together. Maintenance is always on time and super professional - I never have to worry about anything in my apartment not being taken care of promptly. Although there are some pet owners who don't pick up after their pets, management is aware of the issue and is doing everything they can to address it. While there is no size or breed limit on dogs, I appreciate that the complex is pet-friendly and allows all kinds of pets to be a part of the community. Overall, I have had a wonderful experience living here and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a comfortable, welcoming home."
