"Just speaking for my own experience - the landlord lies, plain and simple. He is more a salesman than a landlord. Once you sign the lease, he is happier never seeing you again. Suppose your windows are rotting and thousands of gnats are flying around your kitchen. "They didn't need to be relplaced." They were eventually replaced, but I had to fight for it. During the process, his handyman left our kitchen a wreck and didn't communicate whether he would be back to do more the next day or next week. He was also instructed to leave the cleanup for us, which, you guessed it, was never made clear to us. This is only one of many examples. The excuse for this? "What do you expect for a place this low on rent?" (At the time over $1000/mo) I expect honesty and respect, frankly. Not to be treated condescendingly by someone who continues to blow me off or bend the truth, tell me one thing and do another. The tenant who has been there for "over a decade" is the exception, not the rule. He will tell you that these apartments are revolving doors of tenants and he will tell you why. The thing is, the little people don't have much power here. What power I have is to expose this charade for what it really is, so hopefully others can avoid making the same mistake with their lives, home, and hard earned dollars. Trust your gut, stay away."
