"Very cozy townhouse like efficiency rooms with two floors one for eating sitting and the other for sleeping bathroom. Not sure if they have handicap accommodations. This is a difficult place to walk around. Don’t bring a heavy bag. You have to leave the main building and cross a road to get to the line of townhouses. Then negotiate many staircases. Still enjoyable stay and very nice rooms with beautiful big bathrooms. They have a lovely place to have dinner Krazy Kats Otherwise for food you have to leave. The inn gives you a list of nearby places to go to for breakfast or lunch."
"It’s very cute and I would stay again. However things like the fire place in our room wasn’t working and when we called they let us know that they were aware and would not be coming to fix it or offer another remedy. Also every light in the bedroom AND the TV ran off of one switch so lights needed to be on to watch TV, the TV was also black and white. Little things I believe they could have done better."
"This marked my first and final visit to Montchanin Inn's "Spa." If you're seeking a quick reason to avoid giving them your money, trust me – DO NOT GO HERE. They are liars and thieves, and the services are mediocre at best, robbing you of time and money. I strongly recommend trying other local spas (La Belle, Alo, Sherif Zaki, Michael Christopher, Joseph Anthony) for a more enjoyable spa experience because Montchanin Spa is the last place you should consider. For Mother's Day, my children gave me a $300 gift card for a facial and prenatal massage. Being five months pregnant at the time, I decided to wait until after giving birth to enjoy a relaxing day to myself. I had my assistant call to schedule a 60-minute facial priced at $120, with an additional $30 service (total $150). I planned to schedule the massage for another day due to time constraints. After the facial, I realized the esthetician had only given me a 45-minute session, completing it much earlier than the scheduled 60 minutes. At checkout, the receptionist informed me that my total was $265, not the expected $150. They also failed to apply my $25 deposit and have yet to refund that amount. Perplexed, I consulted with my assistant to confirm she booked the $150 facial. I called them to report the incorrect charge, and they promised that the manager (ANNE) would call me back. However, a week passed with no response, so I called again to follow up. Upon contact, they acknowledged that I did indeed book a facial for $150. However, they claimed the esthetician, ANNETTE, upgraded me to a different facial costing $265. When asked if I was informed of this during my facial, I clarified, "Absolutely not; I was never told I was getting upgraded services." They called back, essentially accusing me of lying because Annette insisted she informed me. In an attempt to rectify the situation, they offered me a 20% discount on a massage for the "inconvenience." Yet, there was no inconvenience; their employee had lied about upgrading services without consulting me. Additionally, they failed to provide a full 60-minute facial, cutting it short by 15 minutes. The remaining $150 of the gift card was intended for the massage, but now I have only $35 left. They believe offering a 20% massage discount, which would require additional payment from me, is not a sufficient resolution. As someone who routinely pays for self-care services such as nails, hair, lashes, eyebrows, laser, and Botox, I emphasize that it's not about the money. This spa essentially stole $100 from my children, who bought the gift card for their mother to enjoy a facial and massage after having a new baby. The spa accepted the word of a LYING employee, Annette. I want to highlight that I tipped her $65 on this facial, a 25% tip, only for her to lie about informing me of these upgraded services. Instead of owning up to the fact that she never communicated this information to me and that she also shortened our service time by 15 minutes, the manager and owner repeatedly refused to refund the $100 they took from me. I provided them multiple opportunities to make this right before posting this review. However, it seems their business is struggling to the extent that they are willing to STEAL FROM CUSTOMERS, EMPLOY LYING EMPLOYEES, and jeopardize their reputation over $100, which was simply a miscommunication error on their esthetician's end. It is absolutely pathetic and disgusting."
"Staff was extremely helpful and were willing to go above and beyond expectations. The room was lovely, very clean, and quite comfortable. The restaurant was also a pleasant surprise. Food was delicious and the staff was efficient, professional. and congenial. Would return in a flash!"
"Immediately after booking a nonrefundable room, my wife called to book a spa appointment. We were told the spa would be closed both days of our stay: one day because the spa manager had a personal emergency and one day because the hotel decided to close the spa to give the staff the day off. I called and asked to get a refund. The manager offered to change our reservation, but would not cancel it. I explained this would not work because my wife is a medical resident and cannot change her vacation. I understand the spa cannot always be open, but I do not see why I should bear the cost of that instead of the hotel, particularly since one of the two closures was the direct result of an action taken by the hotel management. We were given a room upgrade, which is slightly better than nothing, but it costs the hotel nothing and doesn't address our issue The grounds are also not great. Despite being described as a peaceful full of natural beauty, the hotel is sandwiched between two busy double yellow roads, one of which also has train tracks on it. We expected to come and walk around the grounds and find places to sit and read and enjoy a coffee or something. Unfortunately, that isn't really a viable option here. The room itself was ok and clean enough, but the walls are paper thin. I could hear every single sound coming from the other room, particularly in the bathroom. It felt like I was in a public bathroom. In addition to that, we also had some more minor complaints: - The front desk closes at 10pm. Feels like paying hotel prices for Airbnb service - You have to call before 8pm to get housekeeping services for the next day. We got lucky and just barely made the cutoff - We were woken up to a phone call in the morning asking us when we would be out of the room so it could be cleaned, despite having the "Do Not Disturb" sign up. Other hotels I've stayed at managed both respect the "Do Not Disturb" sign and clean the room."
