"Had lunch at this place per recommendation from friends who are following chef Markus from previous establishments. Every menu is excellent. The bread is baked just right. We were swapping dishes with each other to be able to sample dishes in one visit. Friendly staffs."
"As someone who has loved Koloman since the day I stepped foot in there, I was so excited to be back. The food was still great but nothing like it was when I first had it. I’m here to talk about the bar service. We got there early to enjoy the “Martini Hour”. Not only did the bartender not even give us the martini hour menu, and we had to ask for it, but we didn’t get our drinks until about 10-15 mins in. I understand you make more money by having us order of the regular menu but we were going to sit for dinner anyway.. Then the bartender messed up our drinks and seemed annoyed that we even said something. We also had to ask for waters, napkins, new utensils etc.. The drinks were good but the service was extremely slow. They ran out of oysters early into the night. We ordered 2 dozen oysters for a group of 4 which doesn’t seem ridiculous at all but then our waitress at our table later made a comment about how the kitchen was talking about how we were the folks at the bar who ordered “all those oysters”. I just didn’t like anyone’s attitude here and we have recommended this restaurants to SO many people visiting NYC. We’ll unfortunately no longer be doing so. It’s a shame because the food & atmosphere is great."
"Very solid choice when you crave great European cuisine and attentive service, though i hate that they refuse to seat you (even when table is available) until your date arrives. The ambiance is nice, but for that price level I expected tablecloths and a bit more attention to details. The veal schnitzel and cheese soufflé were super amazing and lighter that i was afraid of, I would go back just for them. The beet salad was not quite memorable but a decent app, and chicken was ok. Apple picking cocktail was a perfect aperitif. Esterhasy cake is a small piece but I enjoyed it and also appreciated little sweet surprise in the end. The place was may be 50% full on the upper (mezzanine) level and fully busy on the lower floor dining area (7 pm Saturday), the bar had many free seats which is good for walk ins."
"We had a marvelous time at Koloman. I had been here before with a smaller group, but came back to host a 6-person birthday dinner. They needed a bit more time to seat us, but were very accommodating while we waited, bringing us water and a splash of sparkling wine. This really set the tone nicely!! Our server was lovely and wonderfully attentive, and the food was exceptional and well-priced - the chicken was a favorite. They were also kind enough to bring out a little candle with dessert. Highly recommend!! Perfect combination of classy but not stuffy."
"This is a nice cozy restaurant with a well-curated menu. The dining room service was friendly and attentive. The salad we ordered was fresh and crisp. The liver pate was excellent. However, the signature chicken dish for two people was dry. Tough to give this place high ratings if the signature dish is below average. We also ordered the salmon as medium rare and it came a bit overcooked. The host up front was friendly but a bit of a mess. When we checked in for our reservation 10 minutes early, she asked us to wait because the tables weren't ready with the place settings. However, our reservation was at 10:00 p.m. and there were plenty of open tables with table settings. It was not very busy. When we asked 15 minutes later she had forgotten we checked in and put us at a table - place setting had already been there when we first checked in. The only thing she seemed to accomplish was to make the dining room staff work later given it appeared, she was slowing down the 10:00 p.m. reservations for everyone. Overall, I would come back again but probably not a place I would seek out."
