Bankwood School

Welcome to Bankwood School, located at 152 Bankwood Road in Hamilton, New Zealand. As an establishment and point of interest, we are proud to be a primary school that is dedicated to providing the best education for our students.

At Bankwood School, our tamariki (children) are at the heart of everything we do. With a passionate team of educators, we strive to offer a wide range of experiences and activities to engage all of our students, both inside and outside the classroom.

This year, we are excited to reintroduce more Education Outside the Classroom (EOTC) experiences, such as our year 6 camp. We have also implemented a localized curriculum that connects our students with our local eco-system, Kūkūtāruhe. Additionally, we have made science a specialized subject, introduced more sports teams competing in local competitions, and organized community events and cultural experiences.

To further support our commitment to te ao Māori (the Māori world), we have opened three classrooms with a stronger focus on te reo Māori (Māori language) and cultural protocols (reo rua). This initiative was driven by both Whānau Māori (Māori families) and our Board of Trustees. As part of the New Zealand Curriculum, all classrooms will incorporate te reo Māori delivery to uphold the mana (prestige) of the Treaty of Waitangi and showcase our national identity.

In terms of technology, we are excited to announce the beginning of our Apple ICT roll-out for our middle and senior school. Our staff will undergo professional development to support the learning process before our students transition to a 1:1 device delivery. This ICT medium provides an opportunity for our tamariki to become more digitally literate in a creative way, preparing them for the ever-changing world.

We are also proud to be in our fourth year of implementing Structured Literacy and our second year of the Developing Mathematical Inquiry Communities (DMIC) program. These literacy and numeracy programs will continue to strengthen, grow, and develop at our school.
