Horotiu School
About the Business
Welcome to Horotiu School, a family-oriented, semi-rural institution located on the picturesque banks of the Waikato River. Situated in Horotiu, Hamilton, we are proud to be the gateway to Kirikiriroa. Our primary school caters to students aged 5-13, from Year 1 to Year 8.
At Horotiu School, we believe in striving together for success as one whaanau. Our nurturing environment and well-resourced facilities make us an active and vibrant community. Our dedicated staff, supported by a proactive School Board, are committed to providing an exceptional educational experience.
As a school located in the heart of Kingitanga, we have strong connections to mana whenua and the local community. We offer a range of regular activities and opportunities for our learners, including Year 7/8 Camp, Agricultural Day, Gala, Kapa Haka, Waka Koopapa, Marae Visits, Horotiu Idol, Tug of War, Cultural Festivals, Interschool challenges, ‘Trees for Survival’ river planting days, Community Hui, and Enviro Schools initiatives.
We encourage all members of our community to actively participate in school life. Whether you have a question, interest, need, or concern, our open-door policy ensures that you are always welcome. We value the knowledge, skills, and wisdom that our community members bring, and we invite you to share them with us.
"Ki te kotahi te kaakaho ka whati, ki te kaapuia e kore e whati" - When reeds stand alone they are vulnerable, but together they are unbreakable.
In addition to our academic focus, we believe in the importance of having fun and building relationships. Our staff actively participate in dress-up days, games, activities, and events that create a joyful atmosphere. We set high expectations for our students in all areas, including academics, sports, culture, and behavior, ensuring they have the support they need to achieve success.
Our curriculum is guided by distinct focus areas that have been developed through consultation with our community, the School Board, the Ministry of Education, and extensive research. We utilize Innovative Learning Environments, with co-teaching in most spaces, to provide a dynamic and engaging learning experience.
