Reviews
"Close to Castlemaine CBD, this place is worth the visit. Lots of history and information here. Picnic area, and if you have kid's lot's of placese to walk and explore. Highly recommended for a stop over in Castlemaine."
"Was disappointed with this place. It seems ignored and neglected. Information signs had no information to read. Seems like whoever is in charge of looking after this place has given up. As a lover of gold mine history it's sad to see. I would love to take over and give it the love it needs."
"Big space with interesting scenes. Giggled through the stone maze. Would have been better if information signs had been updated. Map to show where to walk also would have been better."
"Great fun exploring on a sunny cold day. Historic mining site for all ages. Areas to explore and walk while also leaning a little about the past. Itβs the reason Castlemaine became a town and this site is one of many examples that brought the crowds to find their bit of gold. You can pan for gold in the water or just explore the self guided walking areas. Some old rusty bits laying around the open area from the past."
"I wish I'd known about this place earlier, as I've been driving all over the place looking for a running creek or water to pan, and here it is besides the main road - and have since discovered it's a "no prospecting" zone - oh well. I looked up gold prospecting forums which said Forest Ck north of the Monster Meeting plaque, but it is dry as - no water. This site is a good to stop to explore old workings (mainly by hydraulic pressure causing erosion of the surface). It is a bit sad as old equipment has been left to decay, but it is what it is."
