"Wonderful experience and real genuine hospitality. Was invited by my Son to see First Blood. Very enjoyable and very comfy. Great popcorn and choc-tops. Will definitely be going again. Top touch at the end of movie with Graziano telling the audience facts about the film."
"What a fun trip down memory lane!! This place is absolutely adorable and it definitely hits all the nostalgia highlights :) From the retro video games, to the giant tons of popcorn to the intermission during the movie with old commercials Rewind Cinema has it all. We really enjoyed seeing some of our old favorites on the big screen - on a comfy couch with popcorn and wine. Looking forward to our next visit!"
"Amazing little gem! Each month they have a new theme with a whole bunch of fantastic movies to enjoy. The Candy Bar has a nice selection and the popcorn is yummy, they also have both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks on offer - make sure you check out the old game machines and their merch while you're there. The seating is not assigned and is a wonderful mix of chairs, beanbags and couches. Make sure you don't miss the movie trivia at the end! An experience you will not find anywhere else"
"Is this Hobart's best kept entertainment secret? I was searching for alternatives to going to the movies (nothing on that interested me much at the time at Village or State) and stumbled across this gem! I had never heard of Rewind Cinema but I'm so glad I have now. A Blues Bros movie fanatic friend couldn't believe it when I said it was on at a cinema! So off we headed, on a cold night, into the unknown. The ticket prices are extremely reasonable and there is a quirky kiosk/bar with wonderful movie memorabilia. It has wonderful traditional popcorn, choc tops, soft drinks and alcoholic drinks (including cocktails). You then step through a small courtyard to the cinema. It is housed in part of a circa 1830s building complex just overflowing with historical and cultural significance. Known as the Orphan Schools and St John's Park Precinct (situated in St. John's Avenue, New Town) it is part of a somewhat dark chapter of Tasmanian history involving institutional "care" of children and other vulnerable people. Anyway, I digress! So you walk into this room which is jam packed with the most eclectic, random collection of quirky older living room furniture. I had so much fun testing out the various couches, sofas and other seats. They even have bean bags! After choosing this fantastic, comfy sofa we threw on a blanket (thoughtfully provided at the door, but the room was a great temperature), started munching on our treats and snuggled in to enjoy the previews! Except they're not, well, they're upcoming movies for the Rewind Cinema, but they were all amazing trailers for movies we grew up with and loved. Each month has a theme and this month is musicals. So before the movie even started we were singing and dancing (in our seat) to Grease, Dirty Dancing, The Commitments, the Rocky Horror Picture Show and more! I have to stress how different this felt from a normal cinema experience. Some people had dressed up with the Blues Bros theme, there were families, couples, groups of friends ... and a great atmosphere of shared nostalgia and respect for the unique experience. Half way through the movie there is an intermission, during which you can top up on drinks or snacks, grab some fresh air or go to the loo. We might have done some or all of these things but the intermission was an episode of Mr Bean (the one where he goes to church). We were transfixed! I never would have expected that fantastic little blast from the past! The movie was amazing. Of course, it was the Blues Brothers! People clapped when it finished! Such a shared sense of a great night out. The owner/manager was outside as we were leaving and was such an interesting person and generously spent ages talking with a group of us about the business, the building and best of all, his upcoming plans for movies. Who doesn't love chatting about their favourite movies with other enthusiastic movie lovers! All we could think about was our next visit! I'm thinking Girls Night Out to watch Dirty Dancing! Going with my friend to one of the huge hits from the 80s and 90s in Action August! Wishing I'd known about it so I could have gone to The Princess Bride, The Life of Brian, The Castle and more. I cannot recommend this place highly enough. They even do private bookings for birthdays, special events, rewards for clients etc. Their website and Facebook page are great with the monthly programs up, plus coming soon listings. I'm so glad I discovered Rewind Cinemas and hope that others find my review helpful. I hope it also helps keep this fantastic venue going, because there aren't enough of these quirky, unique, retro entertainment options left. Thank you Rewind!"
"Fantastic you and your kids will love it. It’s a great place. Comfy chairs and sofa, delicious food, games for kids and a 10 minute breaks during the film. This place will bring back your childhood nostalgia of 80s and 90s. Amazing place one of my favourites."
