About Lecture Theatre 7
Welcome to Lecture Theatre 7, located in the beautiful city of Launceston, Tasmania. As an establishment and point of interest, we offer more than just a space for studying. We believe in the power of connections and provide opportunities for students to engage with new people through events, sports, volunteering, and more.
At Lecture Theatre 7, we take pride in our research excellence, which not only benefits Tasmania but also has a global impact. We foster deep connections, not just within our university community, but also with local industry, schools, and everyone who calls our island home.
One of our notable achievements is being ranked #1 on climate action for universities internationally. For two consecutive years, we have been recognized as the world-leader in taking climate action by the prestigious Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings. Our commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship sets us apart.
Located near the stunning Blue Lakes, Lecture Theatre 7 is surrounded by natural beauty. These lakes hold a fascinating history, as they were once open-cut mine pits targeted for tin. Exploring the Blue Lakes and learning about their unique past is an enriching experience.
When it comes to education, Lecture Theatre 7 offers a degree that provides a global perspective on the big issues. Our Bachelor of Natural Environment and Wilderness program, for example, attracts students like Gemma Rushton, who took a 10-year gap before deciding to study in one of the world's most incredible environments.
Tasmania is known for its outdoor wonders, and Lecture Theatre 7 embraces this spirit. Upadhya Anjalie Balachandra was drawn to Tasmania for its natural beauty and the diverse range of outdoor activities it offers. From surfing to hiking, there is something for everyone, regardless of their interests.
As the only university in the state, Lecture Theatre 7 provides unrivaled industry access and opportunities for our students. Tasmania is a global pioneer in renewable energy, particularly hydroelectricity, and our students benefit from this expertise. Graduates like Bunfu Yu, who completed a Master of Planning, have won national awards for their outstanding projects.
We are committed to reimagining education at our campuses, with a focus on providing a good education to as many Tasmanians as possible. Our transformation efforts aim to strengthen and future-proof our ability to fulfill this mission.
Join us for exciting events, such as the 2023 Tasmanian Australian of the Year discussion or the Plimsoll Lecture by Dr. Sean Turnell, an Australian economist and political prisoner. Explore our campuses and get a taste of uni life, where you can hear firsthand about our courses, pathways, and scholarships from our students and teaching staff.
Registrations are now open for events in Sydney, Hobart, and Launceston. Let us know you're coming, and we'll keep you updated on all the exciting happenings.
We are proud to announce that four early-career researchers from Lecture Theatre 7 have been awarded a total of $1,773,740.00 in the Discovery Early Career Researcher Awards (DECRAs) funded by the Australian Research Council. This funding scheme supports groundbreaking research in various fields.
Our students also have unique opportunities to learn from world-renowned experts. Recently, music students had the privilege of taking a masterclass with Stefan Dohr, an internationally acclaimed horn player from the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra.
We believe that climate change education is essential in schools. That's why we are thrilled that the main international test of 15-year-olds' progress, in which Australia participates, has announced that the next round of testing will include environmental topics.
Lecture Theatre 7 celebrates the achievements of our students, such as Jay Hennicke, who successfully juggled being a pro freestyle footballer, a childcare worker, and a law student. Our diverse and supportive community empowers students to pursue their passions and achieve their goals.
We are excited to showcase the talent of our music students, such as Ossa Music Prize-winning pianist Sarah Chick. She will be embarking on a statewide tour, highlighting the work of women composers and captivating audiences with her performances.
While reducing carbon emissions is crucial, we also recognize the importance of removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. This compensates for sectors where decreasing emissions is more challenging. Lecture Theatre 7 is dedicated to finding innovative solutions to address climate change.
Join us at Lecture Theatre 7, where education, research, and community come together to create a vibrant and impactful learning environment. Explore our website to learn more about our programs, events, and the exciting opportunities that await you.
