About Lecture Theatre 6
Welcome to Lecture Theatre 6, located in the vibrant city of Launceston, Tasmania. As an establishment and point of interest, Lecture Theatre 6 offers much more than just a place for studying. We believe in the power of connection and offer various opportunities for students to engage with new people through events, sports, volunteering, and more.
At Lecture Theatre 6, we take pride in our research excellence, which not only benefits Tasmania but also creates a significant impact globally. We foster deep connections, not only among our students and faculty but also with local industries, schools, and the entire community that calls our island home.
One of our notable achievements is being ranked as the number one university internationally for climate action. We have been recognized by the prestigious Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings for two consecutive years, reaffirming our commitment to addressing the pressing issue of climate change.
Located near the beautiful Blue Lakes, Lecture Theatre 6 offers a unique learning environment. Beneath the sparkling waters of the lakes, lie three old open-cut mine pits that were once targeted for tin, providing a fascinating backdrop for exploration and study.
We offer a diverse range of degrees, including the Bachelor of Natural Environment and Wilderness, which provides students with a global perspective on the significant challenges our planet faces. Our students, like Gemma Rushton, have the opportunity to study in one of the world's most incredible environments and gain a deep understanding of the natural world.
Tasmania is renowned for its outdoor adventures, and our university plays a significant role in turning everyone into an outdoors person. With access to renewable energy and being a global pioneer in hydroelectricity, Tasmania offers unparalleled opportunities for our students. Graduates like Bunfu Yu, who completed a Master of Planning, have not only excelled academically but also received national recognition for their outstanding work.
We are constantly reimagining education at our campuses to provide a good education to as many Tasmanians as possible. Our commitment to transforming the university ensures that we remain at the forefront of education and are able to meet the changing needs of our students.
Join us for exciting events such as the Tasmanian Australian of the Year discussion and the Plimsoll Lecture by Dr. Sean Turnell, an Australian economist and political prisoner. Explore our campuses and get a taste of uni life, and hear about our courses, pathways, and scholarships directly from our students and teaching staff.
Registrations are now open for events in Sydney, Hobart, and Launceston. Let us know you're coming, and we'll keep you updated on all the exciting opportunities available.
We are proud to announce that four early-career researchers from the University of Tasmania have been awarded significant funding for their research projects. This demonstrates our commitment to supporting innovative research that contributes to the advancement of knowledge.
Our music students recently had the incredible opportunity to take a masterclass with Stefan Dohr, an internationally renowned horn player from the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. Such experiences highlight our dedication to providing exceptional learning opportunities for our students.
We recognize the importance of climate change education and its integration into schooling. As Australia participates in the international test of 15-year-olds' progress, environmental education will be included in the next round of testing, emphasizing the significance of this topic.
Our students, like Jay Hennicke, exemplify the art of juggling various passions and pursuits. Jay successfully graduated from the University of Tasmania's Bachelor of Laws program while excelling in other fields such as freestyle football and art curation.
Additionally, we are proud to support and showcase the work of women composers through the Ossa Music Prize-winning pianist, Sarah Chick. Her statewide tour, "Portraits: Women Composing," aims to highlight the contributions of women in the world of music.
Finally, we understand the importance of carbon removal in achieving net-zero targets and combating climate change. We emphasize the significance of reducing carbon emissions while actively working towards removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.
At Lecture Theatre 6, we offer a dynamic and enriching educational experience that goes beyond the traditional classroom setting. Join us at our institution in Tasmania's beautiful Launceston City Council, Newnham, and become a part of our thriving community.
