About the Business

Dunton Hot Springs

Located at 8532 Road 38 in Dolores, Colorado, Dunton Hot Springs is a charming lodging and spa institution just a short distance away from Telluride. This 1800's ghost town has been beautifully restored and transformed into a luxurious resort nestled in the stunning San Juan Mountains of the Colorado Rockies.

Guests can choose from a variety of day and overnight packages, or even rent out the entire town for exclusive events such as corporate retreats, family reunions, and weddings. The resort offers a unique blend of rustic charm and modern amenities, with hand-hewn log cabins, a historic saloon serving gourmet cuisine, invigorating hiking trails, and soothing hot springs nestled beneath the snow-capped peaks.

The origins of Dunton Hot Springs date back to the time of the Ute Indians, who are believed to have enjoyed the healing waters long before the arrival of miners. The natural hot springs, sourced from the Triassic Dolores Formation, are a result of tectonic forces and provide a rejuvenating experience for guests. The resort also boasts unique features such as a geyser that bubbles up every 45 minutes and a hidden soda spring waiting to be discovered.

Whether seeking relaxation, adventure, or a romantic getaway, Dunton Hot Springs offers a one-of-a-kind experience in a picturesque alpine valley. With its blend of history, luxury, and natural beauty, this resort is the perfect destination for those seeking a truly unforgettable escape in the heart of the Colorado Rockies.

"Tucked away in a beautiful valley, this hot spring resort is absolutely fantastic. The activities are great, but honestly the food is the best part of being there. The hot spring was fantastic as well, super relaxing and just the right temperature range for all 3 spots."

"The perfect setting for our elopement last winter. Staff was attentive and professional, the grounds were gorgeous covered in snow, we enjoyed the unique hot springs bath house and our cabin (Bjorkmans). The photographer, flowers, and cake they supplied were all perfect. Thanks Dunton for an unforgettable stay."

"My family decided I needed a special 80th birthday party. So all my children and almost all the grandchildren came to celebrate at Dunton. They rented my wife and I the Well House cabin for ourselves that included or own private Hot Springs. They decided to stay together in the Barn. They didn't want to party with an 80 year old man. Meals were great, service good considering the amount and diversity of quests. Yep a few of what my wife and I call urban cowboys. You could tell those quests by their store bought NEW clothes and how they sat a saddle. Our group aged from a two year old to 80 year old me. Young and old alike found something to do and enjoy. Even if at times it was only to sit and observe the views. The kids could not have found a better place for this old ghost town hunting man to celebrate. And yes it is possible that Butch Cassidy stopped here after robbing the bank in Telluride. Just don't believe that the Sundance Kid was ever there even though his signature is carved in the Bar."

"The natural beauty of this place speaks for its self, but I’m here to review our stay at Dunton. For the price point you expect a certain level of service. Other then Wes at check in, the service was just not there or sometimes rude. Our cabin was so small there was no where to sit and ended up hanging out in the lodge for the most part. The hot springs can serve about 12 in total but the ranch will book up to 50 guests per night. So much for soaking…especially with screaming kids running around. Dogs: they’re everywhere! Peeing, pooping, jumping. Massage was average. Dinner was amazing as expected. Breakfast and lunch were…simple. In conclusion, it’s a nice spot. But nowhere near a 5 star experience."
