About the Business
Portland Playhouse is a nonprofit theatre located in the heart of Portland's historic King Neighborhood in Oregon, United States. We acknowledge and honor the Indigenous peoples of this land, as well as the history of the Mt. Sinai Baptist Church that once stood on our current location. We also recognize the contributions and struggles of enslaved Africans and oppressed Black Americans in the area. Our mission is to provide artistic excellence and community engagement through theatre, celebrating the diversity and complexity of the human experience. "This place is the jam! We recently saw Matilda and were blown away by the talent. Seats are comfy and positioned well so that visibility to the stage is accessible for all. Staff are helpful and enthusiastic. There’s a small concession stand with 5 dollar bowls of popcorn (free refills), tea, baked treats, soda water, and free beer. They don’t use plastic cups or bowls which is something the rest of the hospitality world should start doing. Bathrooms are super clean, spacious, and lovely."
"This place was incredible! We watched Matilda with our 8 year old and she sat there in awe! Only suggestion I would have for them is to improve the snack and drink section but even the staff were amazing! 10/10 5/5"
"I loved my first theater experience in Portland. The actors were amazing and I enjoyed the performance. We had a Q & A after the show and got some more insight on what happens behind the scenes. Lovely theater, highly recommended all year round and especially now to get into the Christmas spirit."
