About the Business

Harper's Playground

Harper's Playground is a unique tourist attraction located at Arbor Lodge Park Path in Portland, Oregon, United States. This playground is not just any ordinary play area, it is a universally accessible space designed for people of all ages and abilities to play together. Constructed in 2012 through a public-private partnership, Harper's Playground offers a variety of features such as an elevated sand table with a water pump, climbing walls, swing seats for all, and bronze sculptures by artist Peter Helzer.

In addition to being a fun and inclusive play area, Harper's Playground also serves as a Basic Earthquake Emergency Communication Node (BEECN) in case of a major earthquake. This means that it is a designated place where people can go to ask for emergency assistance or report damage or injuries if phone service is down.

Visitors can also take a virtual tour of the trees at Arbor Lodge Park and enjoy the Alligator and Otter bronze sculpture by Peter Helzer, which was relocated to the playground as part of the project. The City of Portland ensures meaningful access to all its programs and services, including Harper's Playground, to comply with Civil Rights Title VI and ADA Title II laws.

Overall, Harper's Playground is not just a place for play and recreation, but also a symbol of community collaboration and inclusivity in Portland.

"My kids LOVE this playground! It's got some unique play structures and has a ton of cars and toys to play with in a sand pit. There are also a ton of people with their dogs which the kids absolutely love. Just be aware that it is right across the street from a school so when school gets out the playground is flooded with kids."

"So happy to have finally visited this gem of a playground! Lots of open ended and nature inspired structures, a climbing wall for both big and little kids, several types of swings including a group swing and a slide. Public restroom is available and currently open, but on the other side of the park."

"Love this park. They have a lot of fun features for the little ones, like baby swings and a sandpit. They also have this Merry-Go-Round like toy where the kids can sit instead of having to hang on. There's a rock wall for the older kids too. They also have some nice cocoon-like swings for people with disabilities. Also there are lots of shady places to sit."
