"Note: Question reviews for this shop -- lots of 5-star single-digit reviews and from people who don't even live here. [Edit 4: After wondering why the clutch pedal felt weird for past year -- asked the lube shop to hit all the grease points... bingo! Jim Davis had put everything together half dry -- zero grease: I'd even asked them to hit all the grease fittings -- I doubt they even know what a zerk fitting is] [Edit 3: I'm not going to take down any more stars: first time I put my truck in 4Lo it was stuck in low range -- I was in Santa Cruz and drove over to a shop, the mechanic crawled out holding a nut from the t-case shifter and said, "this was only finger tight... definitely the last shop that worked on this"] [Edit 2: after almost a year finally tracked down why the starter wasn't working correctly -- Jim Davis took the starter shims out and just bolted it back up: took some trial and error but finally got the right shim thickness and starts perfectly again, nobody thought to check the shims as the problem because no mechanic would leave shims out, anyway -1 additional star.] Edit: After awhile post work, and finding more and more on a relatively simple work order -- I suspect every vehicle that leaves this shop has a problem -- purposely to make sure it returns, or through poor workmanship, or just lazy "we will get that next time when it returns," idk. Ended up in paperwork purgatory between Jim Davis and All Std. Trans. (after four months of back and forth, I got a sales slip: a slip because they claim I ‘purchased’ my own transmission back rather than had it rebuilt). Jim Davis failed and more importantly failed the Automotive Repair Act: see Bus. & Prof. Code § 9884.9(b) “[work] done by someone other than the dealer…” then “...shall be responsible, in any case, for any service in the same manner as if the dealer or his or her employees had done the service.” And key, is that under § 9884.8 “Service work and parts shall be listed separately on the invoice…” I just wanted a proper invoice for the work to remove/reinstall and the transmission rebuild: just too much to ask. Could go on about details on the work itself but I'm staying to paperwork. Maybe my fault: I introduced the transmission shop and made up a story that the truck was going to a carpet shop next to get them to finish and give it back--they stacked greasy parts on my carpet and cut out the noise insulation since it was getting ‘redone.’ To his credit, Bj is a personable guy, and I like him: impressively quick on their feet with excuses. As the transmission guy said between cussing at me in front of my kids over a piece of paper, that he said he wasn’t asked for--it works, and you can drive it, right! You can't argue with that pragmatism now, can you?"

We called in last minute to have it dropped off and checked, they were able to check what was wrong with our car and eased a lot of worries we had, they ordered the needed part and it was ready the day and time they said we could be back to get it fixed.
