"They worked with one of my remote customers who called to have me take a look at their quote before agreeing to anything. They wanted $500+ to install a larger SSD in an older Macbook Air, the computer is only worth about $300 on the used market. The 512GB SSD they quoted was $65 and takes about 5 minutes to install. I questioned what the other ~$430 was for, they said it was for restoring the data using time-machine. This is a process you start and walk away from for a few hours. Seems a little ridiculous. They claimed it was a flat fee, not hourly, which makes it even more insane. I ordered a drive twice as large as what they quoted for $100. I think the labor rate here is quite high, closer to what you'd expect on an in-home service call. For a walk-in bench repair these guys are outrageous."
