"DeGrace is a beautiful 19th c building with interesting nooks and crannies that has been updated to house the biology needs of the present. Alumni will remember it as "Old Biology" and probably also remember that it was a dark black or gray color decades ago because of pollution and/or chemical reactions on the surface of the stone. But today it is a warm sandy brown. It originally faced AWAY from Adelbert Road, into an open quad that in 1960 was filled in with Millis Hall, and the original graceful archway and engraved "BIOLOGY" can be seen from the interior of the Hovorka Atrium that was built to enclose the southern sides of the building. I houses faculty offices, a biology lab, and classrooms, including a top-floor large historical auditorium. For historic details, note the wood paneling, staircase, quarried stone, and stained glass windows. With the addition of Hovorka Atrium, it is now attached to Millis Hall (through the ground floor Atrium) and to Clapp through the ground floor atrium and also elevated walkways to an elevator that can transport you to each of the floors. When built, it was one of a number of 19th c buildings around the Adelbert Walk (an open quad area of WRU Adelbert College) but is now part of the cluster of buildings known as the Agnar Pytte Center for Science Education and Research. Parking and visitor drop offs are to the southeast along Adelbert Road, where you'll find a visitor parking garage (Lot 53.)"
