"It was better than The Centers overall. Still horrible in most ways, but actually good or halfway good in some aspects. They don't respect your legal rights or social dignity either, but they do have a gym and a cafeteria and let you out of your cage on a regular basis to go to them. Other places don't have a real cafeteria or a gym. The Centers does have a much better enclosed space with grass, air, and sunshine than the one The Vines has though. It is basically just for smoke breaks here. It also has a worse "living room" but your individual room is much better and even has a large walk in shower you can hide in if the noise is too much for you. It is noise here though. The TV is louder. Or maybe it just felt that way because I may have been going through autistic burnout. Either way I could hear it from my room, that's never been a problem at The Centers. But that could also just be the architecture. Btw the building looks nicer than any other I've been confined in, except for a real medical hospital. And they have group therapy, and while that was worse than useless for me they at least do some kind of therapy. I never had therapy anywhere else. Oh, then was even someone nice and apparently competent evaluating me. Not the psychiatrist of course, but one person was both caring and capable. That's much better than average. And they never lied to me about what they were doing, unlike The Centers. So they will abuse you, but they won't trick you into thinking they won't here. I even got multiple visitations with my mom, in an area open enough for privacy. Oh, and arts and crafts. The Centers only has drawing/coloring. Avoid going to a psych ward if at all possible, you'll probably be traumatized. But if you HAVE to go to one come here. I've been to a half dozen and this was the best. Illegal, traumatic, neglectful, and abusive, but also enjoyable in parts. Not the best at everything but on the whole a better painful experience IMO. (FYI this review is for a baker act that happened years go. Some conditions may have changed in that time.)"

"This place is beyond terrible. I was forced to come here from Jacksonville under baker act and I never felt more uncared for and mistreated in my life. These nurses and techs were BEYOND unprofessional, and looking at past reviews i can tell they have done nothing to fix this. I had come in with many cuts all over my legs and I didn’t get any treatment for them until the day before i left and that wasn’t until late afternoon. At one point i needed someone because i was having an anxiety attack and the nurse responded with “Girl, i’m off this ain’t my problem no more.” They also will literally laugh and gossip about patients RIGHT IN FRONT OF US. They never did anything but literally just sit in the day room, take us to eat, or MAYBE take us to the gym. The meetings were more useless than diet water. They literally did nothing but basically read off a sheet and just continue talking about the sheet. The therapist John was literally the only saving grace. He was so understanding and so nice, he deserves to be a at a way better hospital. This place needs to be shut down and every single nurse and tech needs to loose their licenses. They act like they were just thrown into these kind of places and have no earthly idea how to handle mental health. The male muslim doctor is literally the definition of horrible, he literally looked at my self harm cuts and told me not to do it cause “it’ll make my skin ugly and i won’t be able to wear nice clothes.” and he started screaming at another patient for simply asking her rights. The bedrooms were absolutely disgusting and freezing cold. every night i woke up literally shivering, at one point i had to sleep in the day room from how cold it was. I had a roommate who was a total slob, leaving trash and clothes everywhere after she left and the staff didn’t even bother cleaning it up, they literally just immediately brought in a new person and left her with a dirty desk and cabinet. Made me feel grossed knowing my bed was probably just as gross since i doubt they cleaned it. The showers had literally mold growing in them. If another patient got angry, the nurses would literally just start yelling back, matching their energy. that’s absolutely what you shouldn’t do when a patient is upset. The cafeteria was a joke, always something violent happening. The food was horrible, completely filled with salt. They didn’t even give me the right medication that the psychiatrist had put me on, when i finally got my meds it was something completely different and had i known i was going to be put on it, i would’ve told them i already have taken it before and it doesn’t help. I ended up having to fake my way just to get out of there after i learned i was going to get zero help. i wasn’t even offered a ride home, so my 21 year old sister who just got her license maybe a year ago had to drive 4 hours total just to get me home. Don’t ever go to this hospital and don’t ever put your kids here unless you want to come out more traumatized then you did going in."

"Although I cannot attest for being a patient at the hospital, I can attest for the wonderful community outreach staff that The Vines has. Geoff and the individual he works closely with are wonderful people! They help out our organization, Zero Hour Life Center, with support and have sponsored our events. Unfortunately with a state hospital, you may not receive perfect care, but as for the staff in the community, I highly recommend!"

"I thought I was the only one experiencing the poor care this hospital provided. I experienced them falsifying documents. I also was injured while in their care. It was not reported. I was baker, acted under suicide ideation‘s. They had promised to transfer me to another facility so that I can receive care, and the transport was supposed to be door to door meaning the one facility will either come and pick me up or they will deliver me to the other facility that did not happen. Instead, they gave me a bus ticket under a baker act and ushered me out of their door . The staff was rude. And they are currently trying to cover up the investigation that’s going on right now. They have not contacted me back on any updates of the investigation of my miss treatment while in their care. They did not allow me to receive my phone call messages . They treated me as if I was a criminal. They miss treated many others on the 500 unit. I am many others did not feel safe, nor respected with any type of dignity granite towards us. Somehow they manipulated the insurance company and were paid in full for my stay there. They carried themselves as if they were above the law. And I still have not heard from anyone about this. At this point me and my advocates are considering taking full legal action and requesting a third-party investigation on this matter. I am traumatized after being in their care, and I am still working on recovering from just being in their care ! I would not recommend any physician psychiatrist, or any other form of authority to send anyone to this facility, because they are not humane. I can only hope that the federal government gets involved and investigate the fraud that goes on at The Vines Hospital. He currently I’m being patient enough to allow them to make amends for the miss treatment they gave me. But my patience is short at this point in time because they’re showing no effort, to correct their mistakes and mistreatment towards me. I, and many others, believe that this will not stop until they are exposed of their misconduct and fraudulent behavior."
