"Waited WEEKS to know whether or not I'd get the apartment i put a deposit on. Every day it was something different: you need a guarantor, you dont need a guarantor, just waiting on your roommates paperwork, just one more paper, one more day, one more day, wait wait and wait more. The first day of the expected rental period started and i was still without a place to live! I was told to wait because they would get me a temp room while they waited for a decision on my apartment, of course no temp room was provided and i slept in my car. Three days into the rental period, no place to live, and then I was told after all that i wasnt even going to be approved! I demanded my $500 deposit back only to be told that a simple check wouldnt be ready for ONE WEEK. Got it back within 3 days because I told them that was unacceptable. Incompetent, inconsiderate, terrible company. I never spoke directly to anyone in the office because they dont answer their phones. I worked primarily with a liaison who worked for them, and he was very kind, but other than that, this was a terrible, time-consuming fruitless waste of money and energy. Do not do business with these people."

"In my opinion, they are absolute criminals. DO NOT rent from this company. They did not give me a key to the apartment for the first week of living there. The apartment was "brand new" and we would be the first people to live in it since renovation. My roommates and I found the apartment in complete disarray. After having a verbal altercation over the phone so that they could repair the damages and get keys, they grudgingly agreed to do so. The real problem has been since i have moved out. My roommates and I left the apartment in better condition than we had received it. They gave us contradicting and outright invalid reasons for withholding our entire deposit. We had to take them to court, won, and are still fighting to receive our rightfully owed money. They have even stooped to saying they would pay to delay the process and then writing bad checks. Absolute criminals"

"I would give zero if I could. Last month, I paid the $500 deposit and $75 credit checking fee for a Bushwick apartment. It wasn't their exclusive listing, so right before my intended move in date, they told me another company already rented the room. They agreed to refund me the $500 (of course), but the $75 is nonrefundable. I called to ask if the check was ready and was told yes. However, when I came the following day, they said the check hadn't been signed, and the manager was on vacation. Then I requested to have it mailed, but it was never mailed because "there're so many refunds at the moment." I had to come there to get the check after three attempts. This is not the end. They did a hard inquiry, which lowered my credit score. Basically, I paid them $75 to have my credit score lowered. Now I understand their business model. They can hardly secure an apartment for anyone, so they make money from the $75 credit checking fee. Mind you, it's a hard inquiry that lowers your score. They get the money, and you get screwed. This is basically a scam that is legal simply because of loopholes in the real estate and credit system. Run away the moment you know the listing is from GB properties."

"Had a similar experience with GB that everyone here seems to have had. Dominic the agent showed me a room and asked me to put money down on it to take it off the market(illegal). I was told there was some mistake and that room was taken off the market and stuck into another room. The room they showed me was ultra-crappy and not worth the price (yes even for NYC). There wasn't even a closet or any windows and they wanted $800/mth. They held my deposit practically for ransom. I had to yell and threaten a lawsuit just to get it back. These people are not only incompetent, but they're crooks, cheats, and scam artists. Stay away. It's only a matter of time before they get shut down. Their previous name was "Apple G", check out those reviews too."

"DISCLAIMER: I am usually the last person to write a negative online review about a business, I have never done this before.. But this company is beyond incompetent at this point. Avoid at all costs. Any 5 star review you see for this company is fake and probably written by the workers there themselves. They will show you one room that you think you'll be moving into, but then shuffle you around to different rooms because they probably found a higher bidder for the original room. They screw everything up, and when I saw that; I mean it. Every single professional interaction, communication, request, etc.. I actually never even signed a lease to live here. This company is not professional and I think there needs to be some investigation into their practices. I've been living in this apartment for a month now and still do not have a key to my own mailbox. I have requested it numerous times over the span of 3 weeks (I shouldn't even have to request my keys) and I still have not received it. I had to bother them for another week just to get the key. In short, this company preys off people who are looking to move to New York City. Unfortunately they probably stay in business because for some people, a shady company like GB is their only option. I have never dealt with worse customer service in my life. Working with GB has probably been the worst financial decision of my life. To the employees that work there, I know that you're not all in charge of how the whole show is run. I too have worked for companies with crappy management. Do yourself a favor and find a new job. Go work for a company that's actually respectable. It must be exhausting dealing with angry tenants all day."
