"You have not suffered enough until you've been to the Mimslyn hotel. I reserved a room last weekend and asked beforehand and their dog policy. I am a disabled veteran and I have a service animal with ADA documentation. Initially, they said ADA dogs are fine, but later emailed and said no dogs allowed at all. I called to ask, and was told I would be questioned about my dog to determine whether it is a valid service animal or not. I asked if they could just ask me on the phone so I wouldn't have to drive out there, and was told no. After arriving, the hotel manager questioned my disability, and said my dog didn't qualify for ADA status. That's funny, bc I don't think hotel staff are qualified to determine disability/ADA status, a medical doctor is, for which I have a medical note and to which the staff outright refused to accept upon my offering. Then they changed course and said I would have to pay a 125$ cleaning fee. What? If you don't allow dogs, that's fine, please make that clear on your website. I would never bring my dog somewhere he wasn't wanted. But to have your staff repeatedly give contradictory guidance, force us to physically arrive before questioning my disability, and then demand a fee for an ADA certified animal? That sounds like a recipe for a lawsuit. Your policy is not in accordance with the law, and your treatment of a disabled veteran/human being was and is VILE. We decided to leave after the staff's open hostility to me and my dog. I asked that they please refund the hotel charge since we didn't check in. We were told to bring it up with the third party booking website which took hours. We finally received a partial refund, after scrambling to then find a new place to stay after driving for hours. Mimslyn, get it together, seriously."

"This place definitely needs an engineer to keep up with repairs. The rooms needed work. I understand cosmetic stuff, but mold and grime isn't acceptable. The view was the only nice thing about this. The F&B team was friendly. However, the front desk wasn't friendly at all. Specially this heavy set guy with glasses. We tried to talk with him but he would make smart remarks. Overall not a great experience."

"We've been coming here for 20 years for different reasons ... but never stayed in the rooms. Usually we'd have a meal here. But we decided to give it a shot. The staff is very friendly and the service has been good. The decor is dated ( in keeping with the period that the hotel was built ). I would call this place cozy . The rooms leave a lot to be desired. The bathroom definitely needs at least an update, the T.V. is small ( 32in). The bed is a brick, and blankets are spare ( that's me being kind ). But the room is clean. At the end of the day, the question is... would I come back? The answer is yes. This place has been a part of my family's life for nearly 20 years . My best friend and niece came up to visit while we stayed here. My niece's very first visit was when she was 2, and she turned 22 this September . Luray and this hotel is just in our blood."

"A feel of European luxury in Luray! You enter and are wowed by old world charm - fireplace, grouped seating areas, antique and tasteful decor! We stayed just one night for our anniversary in a Roosevelt suite on the main floor just steps away from the beautiful expansive lobby. The staff were friendly, and blew us away - they brought a small bottle of sparkling wine and champagne glasses to our room for our anniversary, in addition to a lovely card! The thoughtfulness, care and attention to detail made this a stay never to be forgotten. We also had breakfast in the gorgeous dining room, with tall, swagged windows and chandeliers - it was very good, and priced reasonably. Treat yourself and stay here - although we had a suite, the Historic rooms look just as lovely, as do the cabins and other amenities! Love you, Mimslyn! Thank you for making our 40th so memorable!"

"Stumbled upon this gem while visiting Shenandoah/Skyline Drive. All I can say is wow! The presentation and preservation of this hotel is incredible. The attention to detail, the cleanliness, the staff were top notch. The beds are extremely comfortable. I wish I could live here! We didn't try the food but we will next time as it all looked delicious. We will be back! 10/10"
