About the Business

East Columbia Library Park

East Columbia Library Park is a historic institution located at 6600 Cradlerock Way in Columbia, Maryland, United States. This park is part of the larger Blandair Regional Park complex, which includes the North, West, and East sections located on Oakland Mills Road. The park offers a range of outdoor activities and amenities, including multi-purpose fields, basketball courts, skate park, pickleball courts, pathways, parking lots, and shade structures.

The history of the land dates back to the time of Native American tribes such as the Susquehannock and Piscataway, followed by European settlers seeking religious freedom. The land was once owned by prominent families such as the Talbots, Dorseys, Howards, and Weems, who utilized enslaved labor for farming and household chores.

The park's name, "Blandair," comes from Theodorick Bland, a former Chancellor of Maryland who purchased the land in 1844. The property changed hands several times over the years, with different owners using it for various purposes such as dairy farming and fruit orchards.

In 1997, Howard County purchased the property and began developing it into a park. Today, East Columbia Library Park offers a glimpse into the area's rich history and provides a green oasis for outdoor recreation and nature education in the heart of Howard County. Visitors can explore the park's natural beauty, learn about its past inhabitants, and enjoy the diverse amenities available for all ages.

"the library is very big and has a good selection. however everything is separated by fiction and nonfiction and then organized by author. so it is kind of hard to browse since genres aren't grouped together."

"Very nice area for sports games. Nice and wide open with multiple different fields!! This is where my nephew and his team dominated the championship in 7 on 7 football!!!"

"Went for the yard sale, didn’t even get to park. It was so busy with one way in, one way out. Cars stopping in the middle of lanes. Definitely if done again, it needs to have signs for direction as some cars were heading for eachother head on."

"This is the best library yet. It’s functional having lots of space , technology and references. I love the fact that I can reserve a study room for privacy also I’m a member of the 50 plus club, lol."
