"Wow! Quite the museum and lots of fun. We made a pit stop here on a road trip and were really impressed with the exhibits. There’s lots to see - we spent about 2 hours here and could have spent even more time. Our daughter went through the rooms saying “wow” and we did too!"

"We especially love this museum because it shows NY history, and when my kids are studying Native Americans/Indigenous people in school, they get to see the life-size Longhouse in person! We actually stayed here overnight years ago with the Girl Scouts twice, and it was great! Most everything is on the main floor in a horse shoe shape, and there is a carousel on the top floor that runs every 1/2 hour. You could do about 1.5 hours or as much as 3 or 4! There is a Discovery section more geared toward little kids. We went on a Saturday around noon and parked in a lot on the side street of the building (it was free at that time). Stayed about 2 hours, including 2 carousel rides, and the two 10 year olds were happy with that. It is technically free, but donations are suggested, and there are boxes to drop donations just as you go to enter the galleries inside. Maps available at the desk."

"Wonderful donation based museum. I've been coming here for years. They have really great exhibits in Dutch colonization, native American exhibits including part of a life sized long house, a mastodon and much more. The staff is really great too. I was able to schedule an appointment and look at some of the behind the scenes artifacts. A gem for upstate New York."

"Excellent museum depicting life in New York, past and present. You need 3-4 hours to do justice to all exhibits. They have antique cars, a carousel, fire engine hall, many neighborhoods in NYC like Harlem, the garment district, an especially touching exhibit on 9-11, birds of NY, etc. And it is all free, but please donate what you can. I plan to come back and spend a whole day here. Look at their website for parking details."

"Great free entrance museum with event space a Carousel upstairs that runs at 30 min intervals and a kids touch and explore area. Suggested donation is $10 per family and it is well worth it to keep this beauty running. The architecture alone is worth the visit but the exhibits are really well done and engaging too. Parking can be limited but its totally a great few hours."
