McAfee Knob Trailhead, located on Catawba Valley Drive in Catawba, Virginia, is a popular park and tourist attraction along the Appalachian Trail. Due to the construction of a new pedestrian bridge over Route 311, the parking lot at the trailhead will be closed until late 2024. Hikers can still access the trail but must stay in designated areas outside the construction zone. Alternative parking is available at the Catawba Sustainability Center and along some shoulders on Old Catawba Road. Shuttle service from the Interstate 81 Exit 140 Park and Ride lot to the trailhead will resume on March 1, 2024. Reservations are encouraged.
