Auldbrass Plantation by Frank Lloyd Wright
● OpenAuldbrass Plantation by Frank Lloyd Wright is a stunning architectural masterpiece located in Yemassee, South Carolina. Originally commissioned by industrialist C. Leigh Stevens, Wright's design for Auldbrass aimed to blend contemporary functionality with traditional southern aesthetics. The plantation, situated on a vast 4,000-acre tract of land along the Combahee River, features a main house, guest house, cabins, caretaker's residence, staff cabins, barn stables, aviary, and a unique pond with a floating 'dining barge'. Wright's characteristic design elements, such as pagoda-like spires, hexagonal motifs, and organic influences, can be seen throughout the property. The buildings, made of native cypress, are set at an 80-degree angle to mimic the slant of the oak trees on the estate. Although only half of the planned structures were completed before Wright's and the client's passing, Auldbrass fell into disrepair until it was purchased by Hollywood producer Joel Silver in 1986.
