Auldbrass Plantation by Frank Lloyd Wright State Road S-7-33, Yemassee, SC 29945
About the Business
Auldbrass Plantation by Frank Lloyd Wright is a stunning architectural masterpiece located in Yemassee, South Carolina. Originally commissioned by industrialist C. Leigh Stevens, Wright's design for Auldbrass aimed to blend contemporary functionality with traditional southern aesthetics. The plantation, situated on a vast 4,000-acre tract of land along the Combahee River, features a main house, guest house, cabins, caretaker's residence, staff cabins, barn stables, aviary, and a unique pond with a floating 'dining barge'.
Wright's characteristic design elements, such as pagoda-like spires, hexagonal motifs, and organic influences, can be seen throughout the property. The buildings, made of native cypress, are set at an 80-degree angle to mimic the slant of the oak trees on the estate. Although only half of the planned structures were completed before Wright's and the client's passing, Auldbrass fell into disrepair until it was purchased by Hollywood producer Joel Silver in 1986.
With the help of Frank Lloyd Wright's grandson, Eric Lloyd Wright, Auldbrass was meticulously restored and brought to completion. The plantation now stands as a testament to Wright's innovative vision and remains a must-see destination for architecture enthusiasts.

"OMG!"
"It's an amazing place. The grounds are beautiful. But there was a lot that was not explained. There are sculptures in the gardens with communist themes, for example. There was a speaker under the tree for about an hour, but the seating was inadequate and there was no sound system, so it was hard to hear. There were docents at each building who could tell something about the building. Overall it was very interesting, but just not as thorough as expected, especially considering the admission fee."
"AMAZING! Loved it. The weather was not the best but we were just happy to be there. They did have great people working there from the speakers to the guides and experts. They do have rules so make sure to read all the information before purchasing tickets."
"Amazing, beautiful, special."
"This property has to be seen to be believed. Expensive but worth every penny. Highlight, the main house. Next in line, the magnificent Lincoln classic cars. If you ever get the opportunity to tour this amazing property, Go !!!"
