"Despite our reservation, 1 Hour and 45 min went by before we could get our car resulting in arriving late at our event. Careless, lazy employees (except one… that was handling all the work) Go there early, and pray the have a car for you.. that’s all I can say"
"What is the point of making reservations and prepaying anymore when Hertz and Avis will both understaff and understock their locations, forcing you to wait 1-2 hours no matter what you do. I want to be clear the issue is not with the employees. Both Avis and Hertz in Brooklyn have had friendly and helpful employees, but what company in their right mind schedules one overworked and underpaid desk worker to try to handle 20+ reservations or rentals an hour? I even have an Avis account and do the early check-in. I have to pay hundreds of dollars just to rent a car for a day, but have to have my time stomped all over for something I've already paid for. Why do we as a country make travel so hard, and build our lives around cars, and then make it so dang hard to buy or rent one? Why do we focus on corporate profitability instead of business and service quality?"
"I’ve recently had an awful experience at this location. I waited for two hours for my car on Saturday which isn’t great but fine. I was told by an employee that they would compensate me and other customers by giving us free gas (so we wouldn’t need to fill up before returning the car). A week after I return the car I see that not only have I been charged for gas, it’s an exorbitant amount and when I called Avis customer service to rectify the issue they said there was nothing on their side indicating the gas would be free. I understand that days can be hard and lines can be long but being lied to by an employee about whether I’d have to pay something is ridiculous. I’ve now called the customer support line twice and they can’t even reach this Avis location to discuss the issue. I’m still waiting to get my $170 back :( Don’t rent here. Update: I spoke with customer support from Avis and they refused to stand by the offer the counter employee made. Do not trust the people here. If they tell you or promise you something, it’s only worth anything if they clearly print it in your contract."
"Appalling. Reservation was booked at least a week in advance. On arrival I was spoken to as an unwelcome visitor on account of the worker confusing us with a walk in, which apparently is not allowed at this location. No cars were available, no cars were in the last stages of cleaning and no cars were about to be dropped off. We we given explicitly no ETA and a vague promise of cars on their way from JFK if we hang around and wait for a phone call. When I asked if there was more chance of a car being available the day after, the worker decided to insultingly ask "how would you do that, the reservation is for today." Please note: I did not ask for a discount. When I explained that the reservation was indeed for today, and returned a minute amount of the worker's sour attitude by highlighting his stupid question, he refused service on account of "name calling" even though he is a human being, not a question, and no personal insult was delivered, despite meriting as such. The situation continued after I apologised, but thankfully everyone else was perfectly polite and professional. Please note, if there are no cars available, it is not an unreasonable question to ask if there will be cars available the day after."
"We rented a car for the holiday weekend on a corporate account. We returned the car the evening before it was due, something we have done before, figuring it would be doing Avis a favor to have the car back early to rent to someone else. While returning the car, the gentleman checking us in informed us that we would get a receipt for over $800 - 4x times the amount we agreed upon when checking out the car! We told him that was not the correct amount and asked why it was so much, but he didn’t know and told us to speak to the front desk. We brought this to the front desk and were greeted with zero empathy and an extremely combative woman who dismissed us with, “There’s nothing we can do it, it’s a ‘blackout weekend’. You knew you weren’t supposed to return this early because you signed an agreement, so you’re breaking your agreement and charged $600 more.” We were obviously frustrated by that response and asked if she can help us call customer service to resolve it. She said she would before then saying she would NOT call customer service for us, we had to call. We asked where we were supposed to see this on the agreement or know this info and explained that we never would have returned early if we knew. The other man at the service desk jumped in with a much kinder touch and said that it isn’t on the agreement so we couldn’t have known unless the person checking us in had told us (which they never did). This was so unnecessarily difficult and stressful. It’s frustrating this female employee wouldn’t help us call customer service to resolve it, because once we did they were very helpful and understanding, and we received a refund for the overcharge. As someone who’s worked in customer service I’m baffled by this employee’s inability to resolve or diffuse the situation, and I think that Avis should invest in employee training. Lastly, this all overshadowed the fact that we tried to tell them also that the A/C was broken and no one listened and it was never addressed there OR on our cal into support. I hope this is feedback is helpful for corporate!"
