Over the years, however, the cemetery fell into disuse and was nearly forgotten until its historical importance was recognized by the Arlington Historical Society in 1987. Thanks to the collaborative efforts of the Prince Hall Grand Lodge and the Arlington Historical Society, the cemetery was restored and rededicated in 1990. It has since been added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1998.
