About Us

Welcome to Cambridge Cemetery, a historic and serene resting place located at 89 Coolidge Avenue, Cambridge, Massachusetts. As an official government-operated cemetery, we are dedicated to providing respectful and dignified burial services exclusively for Cambridge residents. Our operations include burials, flower and tree planting, landscaping, and the preservation of historical monuments, all while incorporating sustainable practices such as using rain barrels and mulching leaves on site.
Open daily from 7 AM to dusk in the summer and until 5 PM in the winter, our cemetery offers a tranquil environment for visitors to pay their respects. The cemetery office is open Monday through Friday, from 7 AM to 3 PM, to assist families with information and support during the planning of funeral services.
Cambridge Cemetery is proud to be the final resting place of notable figures including Medal of Honor recipients Joseph F. Scott and Alphonso M. Lunt, esteemed authors Henry and William James, and Baseball Hall of Famers John Clarkson and Timothy Keefe. We also have a special section dedicated to veterans, with authorization for burial confirmed by the City of Cambridge Veterans' Services.
Our cemetery honors the rich history of the area, with connections to the Old Burial Ground in Harvard Square, established around 1635. We ensure that all burial arrangements, including cremation lots, are handled with sensitivity and care, adhering to policies that prioritize immediate needs and the wishes of Cambridge residents.
For more detailed information on ownership, fees, cremation, and monuments, please refer to our FAQ section. We are committed to maintaining open communication with interment space owners and encourage updating contact information to ensure timely notifications.
Cambridge Cemetery stands as a testament to the city's heritage, providing a peaceful and beautiful space for remembrance. We invite you to visit and experience the pastoral beauty and historical significance of our grounds.
