Crite Park: A Tribute to Art and Community in Boston's South End

Welcome to Crite Park, a vibrant community oasis located at the intersection of Columbus Avenue, West Canton, and Appleton Streets in the heart of Boston's South End. This unique park is a tribute to the lasting legacy of Allan Rohan Crite, a celebrated artist and cultural icon whose work captured the essence of urban life and community spirit.

The Friends of Crite Park, a dedicated group of volunteers and community leaders, embarked on the Crite Park Revitalization project in 2017 with a vision to transform this space into a serene and welcoming environment. Our mission is to create a park that not only beautifies the neighborhood but also serves as a cornerstone for community gatherings and cultural celebrations. Inspired by the outdoor scenes Allan Crite observed from his window, Crite Park is designed to feel like an outdoor living room—complete with shaded areas, lush plantings, and cozy nooks for contemplation and socializing.

Crite Park is more than just a green space; it is a place where community ownership and involvement are at the forefront. Through the generous support of donations and the expertise of a visionary landscape architect, we have reimagined and redesigned this area into a vibrant community gathering place. Our board and advisory council, composed of individuals with diverse talents and a shared commitment to the South End, have worked tirelessly to bring this vision to life.

As you stroll through Crite Park, you'll find spaces designed to host unique events that highlight the contributions of Allan Crite and other notable South End residents. Our goal is to foster a sense of belonging and cultural appreciation within this diverse neighborhood.

We invite you to become a part of this inspiring journey by joining the Friends of Crite Park. Your involvement, whether through volunteering or participating in community events, will help sustain our commitment to maintaining a beautiful, safe, and inclusive space for all.

Discover the magic of Crite Park—where art, community, and nature converge to create an enduring tribute to a Boston legend. Visit us on Appleton Street and experience the joy of a park reimagined for the South End community.

"This park has been too long neglected. It is named for an internationally famous African American artist and South End icon, Allan Crite. His work depicts life in the neighborhood in the mid 1900s. My wife's hard working Board of Directors and a distinguished Advisory Council are redesigning and revitalizing the park. Take a look at the web site for more."
