Reviews
"I love being able to go into the girl scout store to buy badges and patches the girls have earned. There is knowledgeable staff to help with questions and to pickup items that they rent out to troops. My only struggle is that there is really limited hours to the store and it sometimes makes it hard to get there."
"Last year was the 1st year my daughter participated in a troop. She was a daisy. The leader only met with kids, at school, 1x a month. There was never any outings or events planned for this troop, Not even in summer. After my daughter sold just shy of $1K in girl scout cookies, she was never given a badge, reward, a camp trip or anything to say Thank you for your efforts. I brought this up to the regional manager over GS who was disappointed to hear but there was never anything done, only she and I talking. It's sad. How they expect all this work from girls but don't celebrate them. This was completely the Opposite when I was a girlscout."
"I've been wanting to visit the Cincinnati Store since I started my daughter's troop. But extra trips are hard when any purchase made requires an hour+ drive to Dayton since they shut down the Lima store!"
"Although this portion appears to be related specifically to the shop, many reviews seem to be reflective of the entire organization, so I will just follow suit. GSWO does a great job of providing support to their volunteer-led troops. I am a troop leader and I don't get paid to do what I do, but I am rewarded by the experiences I get to provide and enjoy with my girls. They are learning Science and Technology with immersive experiences and growing in their confidence and leadership with the activities I plan. If you feel council does not provide you with enough support, call their 1800 number and seek out your community engagement manager. They are very helpful and responsive. If you don't tell them you need something, they don't know. The products and supplies purchased directly from council or national are pricey, but this money goes back to the organization, and Girl Scout policy clearly notes that none of this is absolutely necessary or required. My troop took several field trips last year and did many exciting things, which in total for the year costed each participant no more than $100 over the entire year... and our girls had decorated vests. If you're unhappy with the cost of your troop, volunteer to be the troop treasurer. Us volunteers can use all the help we can get! I love this organization!"
"I'm sad to read the one-star reviews .Girl Scouts is a volunteer organization. If every parent gave just a little time and a lot of encouragement, they would see how their daughters grow in courage, confidence, and leadership. I volunteered with my older daughter's troop in every way possible - even though she was the oldest of 4 children and I worked full time. Then, when my younger daughter started kindergarten, I led her troop and continued to do so for 7 years, until we moved to Ohio. My daughter joined an established troop, and while they already had leaders, I continue to give my time and full support. I know that everyone has their own unique situation and gives to their level of comfort. But if you're not part of the solution then you're part of the problem so make it better in any way that you can!"
