"I spoke to Renee McCoach about a medical condition. She prescribed something that my insurance does not cover and which costs nearly $1000 out of pocket even though there is an equivalent generic version the insurance would cover and explicitly refused to help me access the medication I needed by changing the prescription. She also, when asked about providing a doctor's note for the purpose of ADA accommodations about this condition, lied and said it was illegal to do so. This is not true because this is not my first time asking a provider about documentation for employers and at no point during those previous processes did any provider claim there was a HIPPA violation or that they could not provide that upon my request - - it doesn't make sense for it to be a HIPPA problem because as the patient I'm authorized to give permission about my own records being disclosed which I did, and also by her same logic no one would ever be able to get a provider's note confirming that they are sick and give that to an employer if they miss a day of work because it would be a HIPPA violation for the provider to say that they saw the person on a certain date and that they reported certain symptoms. But that's not how reality works so basically McCoach insulted my intelligence by lying in such a blatant way or demonstrated that she doesn't know the law relevant to her own practice. Moreover when I specified that the documentation of my visit was needed for ADA she said it's not a real disability so no. Under the ADA any person may request accommodations for any medical condition which impacts any major area of their life and is therefore classed a disability to be protected from discrimination and to perform their job. The employer must provide said accommodations as long as there is no unreasonable hardship or cost imposed on them to do so. Whereas there is typically a list of examples of disabilities given when you voluntarily self disclose upon applying for a job the reality of the law is that you are entitled to ask and receive accommodations for any condition that significantly impacts your life because that is what the government considers a disability. She was completely out of pocket in saying that she would refuse to provide documentation because (according to her) it's not a real disability. She also hung up the phone when she claimed she was transferring me to another person who could help me. Keep in mind all this was after I finally was able to contact McCoach directly after being given the runaround and told she would be in contact with me or that someone at the clinic would get back to me and actually having the experience of being "transferred" to someone else but there was no one to pick up the call or I was hung up on. After waiting several days I was able to contact McCoach directly and it was clear that none of my previous communication had been forwarded to her as other people had promised to tell her about my concerns/requests or she just didn't read or respond to what they said. The receptionist I spoke to asked me a condescending question about why I didn't request a doctor's note the last time I saw McCoach which was unnecessary. When I explained that I wasn't aware of the documentation I would need until after the visit because that's when HR requested it of me (under the ADA the employee actually doesn't have to provide any specific documentation unless the employer requests it and there are limits on what they can ask for) and the purpose of the other visit was not to seek that note it was to get treatment, she then backpedelled because I guess she didn't expect me to have a "real reason" to be asking for a doctor's note. I asked to report McCoach to the director for her behavior. I was told she would email the director but there was no way for me to directly contact the director or to participate in the communication. Do not book with McCoach and I hope she is one day accountable for her behavior. I felt as if she didn't see me as worthy of treatment, accommodation, or decency and treated me as such."
