"Fantastic canal trail. There are so many interesting things to see along the way... little "tid bits" of "New Hope Personality and Charm", through that particular stretch. We miss the canal boats very much. I remember reading about a possible revival of the project about ten years ago, but nothing materialized. We remember them fondly, and should have inquired about a ride when they were still here. That would have been around 2000, I believe? I could be wrong, but it was quite some time ago. I remember asking a resident that has a home right on the canal about the boats, and she said, "I've been here for 40 years and I don't remember any boats." Well, I showed her pictures of said boats in said canal in said New Hope, and our conversation ended with a smile. Mine, not hers. Does anyone else remember them or have photos? **Update** I read a wonderful piece written by photographer Flo Deems that stated the canal boats rides would end in 2008 due to damage to the canal from flooding, as well as the company running the project no longer wanting to do so. They did resume for a bit, but by 2016 all boats were removed from the canal and no plans to reinstate the project were in place. Truly a shame. I wonder where they are now? Preserved I am hoping."
"Nice easy trail- a little more muddy than the NJ side. Lots to see in New Hope. I rode to the Washington Crossing Bridge, and crossed back into NJ. A picture of the NJ-PA crossing options and mileage is below"
"Wonderful place for a walk and to do some birdwatching and see other wildlife. Flat walk along the canal. Well maintained with towns to stop in all along the way. Historic houses pop up as do an abundance of flowers. Really one of my favorite places."
"Walking the Delaware Canal Trail is like walking into a piece of history. It's easily accessible from many spots along the tail. We agreed across the river from Stockton NJ just north of New Hope. The walk is easy and pleasant. Walking north we encountered a bald eagle perched high in a tree directly above the tail. Overall, very enjoyable."
"Perfect trail for hiking and biking. Well kept and clean. BE AWARE I hiked this trail on 12/18/18 and it is closed for repair from Rt 202 to Clark Park approximately 1.2 miles. This requires you to travel along Rt 32 on foot and that can be quite dangerous. No notice on the longevity of the closure. UPDATE: Trail work is completed. Hiked it on 4/17/19 and the work is all finished."
