About the Business
Welcome to the Consulate General of Finland in New York, located at 605 3rd Avenue, Manhattan. As a key component of Finland's diplomatic presence in the United States, our Consulate General, alongside our counterparts in Los Angeles and the Embassy of Finland in Washington, D.C., plays a vital role in fostering Finnish-American relations and supporting Finnish nationals abroad.
Our mission extends beyond traditional diplomatic duties to include providing 24/7 assistance to Finnish citizens in distress, aligning with the Finnish Border Guard's guidelines for travel to Finland. We are committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of our nationals during their time abroad.
The Consulate General is an integral part of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland's reformed Foreign Service, which underwent significant reorganisation on 1 August. This reform aims to adapt to the evolving international landscape and enhance cross-organisational collaboration, supporting Finland's foreign policy objectives.
Furthermore, the Finnish government is actively engaged in international economic relations and development cooperation, as highlighted in the recent Report on International Economic Relations and Development Cooperation. This report complements our broader foreign and security policy initiatives.
We are also proud to inform you of the Defence Cooperation Agreement (DCA) between Finland and the United States, approved by the President of the Republic of Finland, which strengthens our bilateral defense ties.
Please note that while we are dedicated to assisting Finnish nationals, we do not handle visa inquiries. For more information about our services and Finland's global presence, visit the Finland Abroad website, managed by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland and its missions worldwide. We look forward to serving you and enhancing the bonds between Finland and the United States.

"Last year, I was applying for a residence permit and accidentally booked my appointment in Washington DC. I had travelled from several states away and didn’t realize my mistake until the day before the appointment. I called the Consulate General’s office and explained my predicament and the receptionist was so friendly and went out of her way to help me out. She made arrangements for me to come in the following morning on a day they don’t usually take appointments. So the next morning I went in and met with an agent, he too was super friendly and made me feel better about my boneheaded screw up. Everyone I’ve spoken with at the Consulate has been so warm and helpful, it really makes me feel resolute in my decision to move to their beautiful country. This office is full of great folks who just want to help in any way possible."
"Worst experience in my entire 12-years travel career. It's easier to get visa to literally any other place than to Finland. Just wasted a lot of time and 250$ for nothing. No relevant information, no any effort to provide adequate service. Many of my friends had exact same experience with Finland. Save your money and go to Sweden, Spain, any other European country."
"I second this already written review here. DON'T go to Finland embassy unless you really have to. Just had the worst overall experience of the 6 times I've ever had to get a Schengen visa. First of, the delay is not even funny. It took 21 days for the whole VFS and visa stamping to get done! So, God forbid if you need your passport for any emergency travel. Secondly, we have an upcoming travel to Italy 3 months later. We had provided ALL documents and confirmed bookings for the same. Still, they gave us a valid visa for only the 5 days that we were to be in Finland. Other such times I've at least got some buffer for some flight delays, not here! Then there is something to be said about the amount of papers I had to print and take copies of. I mean, so much for talking about global warming and not taking any action on it. When one could have easily sent soft copies - did that when they needed some more documents. Well that helps the VFS to make easy money for each passport page you have to provide copies of. Scam! Sigh! Very poor representation of what the country can be."
"So frustrated with the whole process of my visa. To a point, I think it’s really not worth going anymore. They emailed me back telling me that they will mail out my passport and give me a tracking number. My flight is in two days, if they mailed out at the time they said they did, then I will be totally fine. But they didn’t mailed it. Had to buy another flight."
"I went for my Schengen Visa today on 1/31/2019.First of all I could like to say that it is one of the most beautiful consulate in New York.As I had appointment by 9 am it all started on time. The interview was very professional and friendly as well. I had missed one paper in my document but they were nice enough to say just email it.Once my visa is stamped they said I will get email to pick it up.Over all my experience was very pleasant and professional."
