Reviews of Columbia University International Students and Scholars Office
"Lost my OPT/CPT Visa status because of a technical failure by the department and lack of communication and now I'm paying heavily for it."
"Maybe for a big institute like Columbia, the staff here are also having a hard time. But sometimes they are not very helpful! For some specific problems, you are having a hard time contacting the right person."
"I really hope people who work here care abit more about the students. It’s already difficult enough being an international student in the US. You guys are only available 2 hours per day, 4 days a week through phone. When I do get connected, advisor says the question is too specific and have to be emailed…. Shows no interests of helping the international students."
"It takes five business days for the office staff members to reply an email and another five business days for them to answer your follow up questions? Interestingly, sometimes no one will reply to your email at all. I guess it is not time sensitive at all for everything related to the international visa :)"
"Calling the office just directs you to a voicemail inbox. Unlike in peer institutions, there are no office hours or call-in hours. ISSO has repeatedly refused to offer even the most basic of legal advice to international students facing extremely uncertain times, and does not think that it has any responsibility to advocate for international students. ISSO senior staff think of ICE as good people and friends who need to be accommodated wherever possible, rather than kidnappers who need to be kept off campus at all costs."
