"We recently moved from Loveland,CO to Sherwood, OR. We got quotes from 3 movers and chose Great Plains based on past reviews and the quote. Sergio was easy to work with and Liz was able to answer my questions quickly. We had the kitchen packed by Great Plains, but we packed the rest. On the day I’ve the move, Larry showed up with a large crew that worked for ~6 hours. Because of where we lived they be used shuttle trucks. We also had one of our cars shipped for a very affordable price, arranged through Great Plains. On the receiving end, Larry was there a day before the original expected delivery date. The unloading crew was just a great as the loaders were. The whole process was a way better experience that I expected. I would definitely use North American if I need to move again."
"I am not one to write reviews, but this was the worst experience. Posting to help others stay away from Arena Van Lines. We recently moved from one state to another and decided to contract through a broker. They chose Arena van lines for us. Our movers showed up hours late and then complained about working too late. They made us pay about $3000 more upon their arrival because the estimates were supposedly way off. They made us pay for extra space because they cannot stack fragile boxes, but they still stacked them (pictured). They also stood on our goods in the truck in order to stack everything (pictured). Payment is cash only, which should also have been a big red flag. Our original estimate of arrival was 10-14 days. It took 30 days to get our goods. They claim they do not have enough drivers, yet keep taking on more customers. We could never get a confirmed date from them. It kept getting pushed back. Customer service was no help with getting our goods. They were the rudest customer service I have ever dealt with. Every rep had a different story on what their policies were. I would read my contract to them and they would yell at me because “my contract does not matter.” They apparently had other pages to a contract that I never read, signed, or agreed to but was liable for. They also quoted DOT restrictions that were not referenced in my contract. Having no prior knowledge of any of this, we had to go extra weeks without any of our goods which caused us to have to pay out of pocket for work clothes, kitchen tools and more to get us through. Upon arrival, they did not have enough individuals to assist in unloading. They tried to charge us $1200 more. They transferred our goods to a semi even though they have moving vans which are more realistic for delivery to an apartment complex. Another customers' goods were on the truck when ours were delivered. We watched the driver throw the other customers’ mattress on the ground in order to get to our goods. They shattered our tv, cut a cord on our lamp, broke our desk, scratched our pots and pans, and lost/broke other items. If you learn anything from my mistakes, it is that Arena Van Lines is not to be trusted and you should steer clear."
"Absolutely horrific experience. The woman quoted me for my 1-bedroom apartment plus my motorcycle. I'm not bringing a ton of stuff. I ended up not bringing my desk, bed, tv stand and some other large items. Movers get to my place "oh, there's a $400 handling fee for your motorcycle." What? They say so they can crate it. They then tell me I only have 300sqft and that they can't put anything on top of the motorcycle so half that square footage is gone. Are you kidding me? Put it in the crate then and give me the space on top of it. Now I'm going to have to pay whatever extra they're about to charge me for the space they have to add on. I do not have the money for this. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. HORRIFIC. This is criminal."
"Bumped the estimate up from 130 boxes to 190. Found out some of the extra boxes were mostly empty and some had stuff that we had packed in boxes/totes. Feels like we were hit with a bait and switch. The crew that loaded the truck were excellent. The crew that unloaded the truck was short staffed and very slow. I put in as much work as them and had 20,000 steps and went up 73 flights of stairs carrying boxes and stuff. The crew finally finished unloading at 10:30 and left. My wife and I have to reassemble all of our furniture. I paid to have it reassembled, but am stuck doing it. So very disappointed with your company. Feel like I should get my $1500 increase back (for extra boxes) and 2 days worth of wages."
"Negative reviews aren't my jam, but I'm leaving this as a warning to others. My husband and I recently moved from Colorado to North Carolina (1,465 miles). They told us it would take five days to three weeks for our stuff to arrive in NC and recommended picking it up a week early, to give our things a head start. Our belongings ended up taking 28 days to arrive, 10 days after the guaranteed delivery date. We had to call repeatedly for updates and were given a variety of excuses. We chose North American based on the price, which was $2,000 less than its competitor. After this experience, I would have gladly paid the extra $2,000 if it meant our belongings would have arrived within the agreed upon window. If you're on the fence about using North American, I recommend jumping the fence and using a more reliable moving company."
