About the Business
Navajo State Park, located at 1526 County Road 982 in Arboles, Colorado, is a popular tourist attraction known as Colorado's answer to Lake Powell. The park features Navajo Reservoir, which extends for 20 miles south into New Mexico. Boaters and campers can enjoy the park year-round, with options for sailing, house boating, power boating, and fishing for crappie, bass, pike, trout, bluegill, and catfish. The park's Two Rivers Marina offers slip and mooring ball rentals, boat rentals, and gasoline for boats.
With 138 campsites, most of which are open year-round, Navajo State Park is a major recreational facility in southwest Colorado, attracting over 300,000 visitors annually. The park also offers trails, wildlife viewing, and three cabins for overnight stays. The reservoir serves as the principal storage for the Navajo Indian Irrigation Project, providing water to agricultural land on the Navajo Reservation.
Navajo State Park was established in 1964, two years after the completion of Navajo Dam in New Mexico by the federal Bureau of Reclamation. The dam, built on the San Juan River, created the 15,600-acre reservoir, with about 3,000 acres on the Colorado side. The park is part of the Colorado River Storage Project, which includes other dams such as the Aspinall Unit, Flaming Gorge, and Glen Canyon.

"We kayaked here on a week day in mid October. A little breezy but not bad. Easy access. And when we returned to the dock and boat ramp we were treated to hundreds of rainbow trout that were jumping and darting about as a fish hatchery had just released them."
"If you're not a boater, this park doesn't really have much for you. Hot, and very little shade. Chimney Rock National Monument nearby was cool, however."
"Big giant lake in both Colorado and New Mexico for boaters.we stayed at the Colorado side campground. Big roomy campground, coin-operated showers, and flush toilets. We went in August. During the week, it was not crowded. There are three campgrounds, one with a marina and a little store with chips and ice cream. Camp at the one with the marina for easier water access. We stayed in Carracas campground, the middle campground. Rode our e-bikes all over. Fished some but steep access getting down to the lake from there. Nice visitors center with helpful staff."
"What a fantastic place, in off season it’s very quiet but lots of space doc campers RV’rs and all types of water sports. We walked the trails and the spring flowers were out and the heady aroma of sage bush was beautiful"
"What's there not to like about camping in Colorado? Navajo State Park has wonderful views of the lake and the mountains. There are spaces for tent camping, RV, with full hookups and pull-throughs. The camping sites are plenty big enough but are pretty close to each other. There isn't a lot of shade/trees at the sites. The saddest thing is there is no immediate access to the water. You will need a boat, or go to the marina, or off-road a bit at Windsurf for swimming. All in all you can't beat the crisp clean mountain air."
