"No words I write can accurately portray how amazing this sanctuary is. Not only are the animal residents the cutest most perfect babes around the staff and volunteers are top notch. The level of care each animal resident receives is astounding and I only hope in my next life I get to be taken care of half as good. These creatures get to live the rest of their lives safe, loved, and with no fear of being hurt ever again. Thank you BSFS for all you do!"
"I visited this incredible farm animal sanctuary on March 19 for their Meat Out event. More than 300 people were there!! Lots of families with kids. It was amazing to see people of all ages and backgrounds interacting with goats, sheep, pigs, cows, horses, water buffalo and more. There were food trucks and merch. You can see how hard the staff and volunteers work to give these animals a great life. It’s a bright spot in the community and in a world that can sometimes feel overwhelmed with depressing news. I truly recommend a visit."
"Kindest volunteers you'll meet, they welcome you with open arms to help and give thorough instructions during volunteer days. Animals are taken care of beautifully, each and every one of them knows they are loved and protected. We work hard for great outcomes at Broken Shovels, making sure stalls especially are clean and that everything is tip top. I've never felt out of place working here, and I enjoy every second I spend at the sanctuary. Would gladly do this for the rest of my days if I could. Watching each animal grow and prosper makes my heart happy, they know they're safe now and that they're where they need to be. Adore everything about it, from the dirtiest muckings to the snuggle times with sweet Tripod and baby moos. Each team member of the sanctuary truly cares for the animals, you can see it day to day as well as how much they know about the individual backgrounds."
"I live really close and drive by all the time. Easter 2021 I finally got the new attend one of their events. $30 for 1.5 hrs of animals was well worth it. I know that money is going towards helping care for all the animals here. All the volunteers were very friendly and informative. I highly recommend stopping in for one of their events or donating if you can. You’ll be glad you did."
"I loved coming here to see all the beautiful animals and interact with many of them. It was so sweet getting to hold the baby goats! I love that this place helps animals and, as I understand it, gives them a place to live for the rest of their lives. I was able to talk some with one of the employees (I think she said she was one of four employees, along with several volunteers) and it was obvious that she was dedicated to her work and cared a lot about the animals. She seemed to know all the goats by name, which was quite impressive, given that there were dozens and dozens of them! There were also chickens, cows, pigs, rabbits, and other animals. It seemed like all the animals were at home, just hanging out and being themselves (as silly as that may sound). I also love that most of their events are very low-cost, so hopefully people who are able will donate a little extra, but the experience is accessible to nearly everyone. I love that they also had a vegan food truck parked outside. I'm not vegan but tried some of their chickpea "tater tots" and they were delicious! I look forward to trying more of their offerings. Tips: The goats love to chew on just about anything, including clothing, so keep this in mind when choosing what to wear. Also, it is a farm, so wear shoes you don't mind washing animal dung off later, just in case. Those with long hair may also want to wear it up, as the goats will chew on that, too. Finally, don't bring in a bunch of stuff. I left my purse at home and just brought a couple of essentials from my wallet, and my phone. Overall an amazing experience! I will definitely be back soon!"
