"If you are ever in the area I would definitely recommend taking this ride! Such a beautiful view on the way up, up top, and on the way down! I didn't realize there was so much history involving the cog railway ! There's also someone on board that gives you details about the railway and it's history as well as certain landmarks outside of the train. Try not to fall asleep on your way down! I swear the whole train was sleeping on the way down except me. Lol"
"A great way to enjoy Pikes Peak. Timely ride up the mountain. They coached us on the way up when to drink water to minimize altitude sickness. The stories and history along the way are great. They just got new rail cars from Switzerland so it was clean and comfortable. I’m glad our cars weren’t packed because you face 3 and 3 and 2 and 2 each row (think a New York subway) it would be a very tight fit if the 3 chairs facing my 3 chairs were filled. We spent 40 minutes at the top of Pikes Peak then headed down. Beautiful views. Very structured and fun way to see the peak."
"I have driven up Pikes before and enjoyed it but I was put off originally by the price but it ended up being very very worth it. I had some friends visiting so we took the train, and unfortunately, due to iced over tracks, we were unable to reach the summit. It was still well worth the cost. The woman doing the announcements and educating us on the history of the mountain was funny and nice. The views are always amazing and the train went nice and slow so you wouldn’t miss a thing. I would highly recommend!!"
"The Cog Railway was located in Manitou Springs and offered a ride up to Pikes Peak. The ride took about an hour and 15 minutes because the railway only went about 8.5-10mph. Better safe than sorry though. The conductor was informative and entertaining. His endless Dad jokes were hilariously horrendous. During the ride, we were able to see mountain goats, waterfalls and several animal tracks. It was scenic; absolutely beautiful. Once we arrived at the peak, we were able to walk around and play in the snow for about 45 minutes. They had a visitor center with a gift and snack shop as well as bathrooms. Some of the passengers got altitude sickness. Prepare for this by bringing water and snacks. Coffee is not recommended. It’s a little harder to breathe at the top so take it slow as well. We loved everything except how close passengers were to one another and that there was no air circulation in the railway. Passengers were allowed to open the windows, but this didn’t provide enough air flow. We paid $214.65 and it was worth it."
"We did the 1:20pm ride and we paid for seating but we honestly didn’t have to. It just depends on the time and day that you go. We loved the ride up and the conductor was amusing. It says that the cog railway isn’t heated… which is true but it’s not freezing cold. The only time that it’s truly cold is when you get to the top of pikes peak. I cannot stress enough how much water you need to drink. When we went a guy completely collapsed but fortunately EMT was there to help him. You have to drink at least 2 water bottles before you get there and 2 more when you’re on the way up and at the top."
