"There is NO SECURITY HERE!!! My car was broken into twice within 6 months, and the second time they almost successfully hotwired it to steal it. It cost me $2500 in damage. Lots of neighbors have said their cars were vandalized and/or stolen too! Google 89107 crime rates and see that you'll be living in one of the densest crime areas in Las Vegas, and there is NO security. No one patrolling at night. Nothing!! Don't let the leasing agents lie to you. I called the manager and asked about security and she said the guy drives around 2 maybe 3 times a night! THAT IS IT!!! For a complex of hundreds of apartments? In legal terms this is simply negligence, especially when these people bring in literally millions of dollars a year in rent.. Ok, my next issue is the leaf blowers. As other reviewers have mentioned, it starts every single weekday at 7/8 am, and it is the worst sound I have ever heard. I wear earplugs and gun range earmuffs, and I can still hear it!!! This horrible noise goes on for HOURS!!! They leaf blow every day for 6-8 hours!!!!!! WHY!!!! You can't even enjoy the pool because it's too loud! I watched the landscaper blowing literally one leaf around the parking lot for five minutes lol! It's moronic. So if you don't mind your car being repeatedly vandalized/stolen, a crime-ridden neighborhood, and if you don't mind truly horrible unending noise all day every day, than this is the place for you! For the price though, you can find a much better quality of life elsewhere. Oh ya, and the hot tub is usually broken and the pool water itself was truly disgusting yesterday when I tried to swim in it. Good luck! Here’s an update. The pool has been out of service for two years. So don’t move here thinking you have access to a pool. It’s for show only. I just posted a pic of what it looks like, and it’s looked like this for over a month. And this is exactly what it looked like all year last year! I wish I could sue for false advertising. It even says in the lease that we aren’t entitled to a pool and our rent only covers our unit. I am hoping to move soon."

"I really had high hopes for Portola. I resided here for almost 6 years back when the complex used to be called St.Croix. I never had any issues with them, and I recommended them to many people. However, my experience with Portola has been the exact opposite. They had a 1 month free promo and many units available, so we decided to apply after we toured the complex and inquired about the units that we were interested in. The application process took about 10 days due to the holidays (which is understandable) but it was a hassle getting our employment verified. Once we were approved, we placed a holding fee of $350 towards a unit that would be ready to move in by February 13. The staff at Portola assured us that as long as we submitted that holding fee, it would guarantee us that specific unit because no one else had placed a holding fee on it yet. I paid the fee as soon as I got off the phone with them, and my welcome letter was emailed to us shortly. The 1 month free promo was not applied to our total cost because it was no longer valid. We reached out to Portola again because they had initially told us that it would apply to the unit we wanted. Long story short, they ended up honoring the promo and sent us the revised version of our total cost at move in. The representative told us the next step would be to get renter's insurance and upload proof of that contract using their link so we did all of that within 2 days. In addition to that, we were given our move in details such as time/date to pick up our keys and drop off our 1st month payment. A week later, we received a notice that the tenant residing in the "available" unit that we placed our holding fee for decided to no longer evacuate the unit. So, they told us they would try to find another unit for us prior to our move in date with the same price or we could go ahead and take the only other available unit they had which would be an extra $200 monthly... The only other option was having our holding fee refunded while still losing our $120 application fee ($60 for each person the lease) and $150 we spent on renter's insurance... If we had known that the "available" unit listed on the website would not be available, we would've never applied in the first place. What is the point of paying a "holding" fee of $350 if it doesn't actually guarantee us the unit? Now we're left with 3 weeks to find a new place to lease before we have to move out from our current place and, not only did we waste our time but also our money..."
"Many of these apartment complexes around Vegas tend to have the same issues - they tend to be older bldgs with older appliances and problems with pests. This is due to garbage issues where trash is left out and invites them. Better garbage maintenance is needed because the problem is hard to eradicate. This is esp. so in apartments nearer the Strip. This isn't necessarily a bad apartment complex. The staff here were friendly and responsive. When I stayed here there was a flood in the apt from a broken pipe but they were able to fix it in a timely-enough manner. Ppl here generally keep to themselves and there were only a few minor noise issues. Some might find the area around here unsafe but I never encountered or heard of any safety problems. The pool area looks nice but it was not being utilized while I was here. There is also a gym but I was an airbnb tenant while I was here so did not have access to either. Overall it may or may not be a good option for most. The pest issue (mainly bugs) should be better addressed. The furniture and such is lower quality and things like some of the electric stove tops had to be fixed. The temperature unit worked well. A little more TLC and would be a good option. 2 1/2 stars"
"DO NOT MOVE IN HERE. They have a bunch of kids messing up the property. Throwing rocks at buildings they vandalize your car. They broke my bumper threw mud all over it then you call management and they don’t do anything about it. They have said they were going to have the grills in the pool fixed my June. It’s now august and it’s still not fixed they haven’t been working since I have moved in. They have these other grills but it’s definitely a fire hazard. A grill is never supposed to be that close to trees. Management locks the doors to the pool where you have to jump fences to get to the pool. Management during business hours locks the office doors while they are working Where you can’t even get to the computer room."
