"I used to love this place! My daughter and I have spent at least $400 there in the last month. My daughter and I visited yesterday, I would say it was about my third bad experience there. There is an employee there. I don't know her name, just what she looks like: blonde hair and glasses. Yesterday she was very rude and another time about 3 months ago, she was the same. I found some items I wanted to purchase, and she came at me telling me they weren't for sale and weren't priced. She tried to pull one of the items out of my hands. I had to prove the item was priced! I was finally able to purchase all my items, and I noticed the laundry basket I found the item she tried to take from me was removed from the floor. There are totes and laundry baskets full of items for sale EVERYWHERE in the store! This was the 2nd time she had done this to me when I wanted to purchase something. Then, after my daughter and I left the store, that same employee took something to her car. Maybe I purchased something she herself wanted. I am not sure. This has left a bad feeling about this place for me. I usually visit 3 to 4 times a month. It may be less now or not at all. No customer should ever have to feel the way I did yesterday. If you don't want to sell items, then don't put them for sale out where customers can see them for purchase. This is a consignment store where people are trusting them to sell their items. How can these people consigning their items through this store make a profit on their items if they aren't allowing customers like me who want to purchase, do so?"
"I am so disappointed with the owner of this store. I witnessed the owner refusing service to a woman today at the cash register. From my understanding, this business is making money off their consigners but how is that possible when she refuses service to certain individuals? The customer had six items but was told she wasn’t allowed to buy any of them. The customer had to walk out empty handed. I’ve been going to this business for almost 4 years, but they lost a loyal customer today."
"Hands-down the best clothing consignment store in the area. They have lots and lots of gently used, high-quality women's clothes, shoes, and accessories, a small room of men's clothes and shoes, a few racks of children's clothes, and a large room of plus-sized women's clothes....not to mention rack after rack of vintage clothing and costumes. I've been shopping here for 10+ years! I've scored clothes here that would have been $200 new for $15-30, including a gorgeous pair of lace-up leather boots. You'll find all the best brands here, including unique brands you've never even heard of. The staff is friendly and will help you find whatever you're looking for or put an outfit together. If you're ever shopping at the Riverside Hy-Vee, it is definitely worth swinging by Second Act (tucked on a nearby side street) to see what new stuff they have. Also, at the end of each season, they have really awesome sales. This place is a jewel. I almost don't want to post this review because I want the store all to myself! But seriously, you should go."
"I have been consigning at The Second Act since I moved to Iowa City 4 years ago. I love the friendliness of everyone working there and the personal interest shown to me. I did a large closet over haul when pregnant and took a large percentage of my things to be consigned. My clothes were sold at a fair price and I was happy to receive my balance promptly, it is nice to not have to wait until a certain day of the month to get paid out. When I called to check my balance the owner even remembered the last time I had come in and was excited to hear how I was doing and how my son was. We were greeted with excitement when we came into the store later as well. I was happy to find a couple of gently loved pieces to add to my closet as well. Being a new mom and wanting to be a conscious consumer it is nice to always know I can find quality, gently used, name brand clothes at The Second Act."
"I decided to shop at this store with my daughter and niece today. The owner shadowed me through the store. I was there for about half an hour. My daughter and niece are teenagers. One went to the dressing room to trysome clothes. The employee opened the curtain even though my niece was standing there. I needed to use the ladies room but the owner wouldn’t allow that. We left without buying a thing. Maybe someday she will refuse to allow a patron to use the bathroom and find a mess on her floor. I’ve owned a business for 20 years, I would never treat a customer that way."
