"Overall a great hotel in line with the Element Brand (modern extended stay hotel). The room was clean, the property appeared well maintain, and the staff were friendly and helpful. The location is great right in downtown iowa city an easy walk to shops and campus. The beds were comfortable (Westin heavenly beds). The complimentary breakfast is ok, but I appreciated the free coffee."
"My husband and I stayed for one night. Pros: Clean, close to restaurants and shops - very walkable, quiet, happy hour with bread cheese blanched almonds small selection of beer and wine. Cons: Desk clerk was pleasant but didn't explain parking wasn't gratis with room. Parking is located behind hotel and attached to hotel. Received hotel guest validation green slip, but was charged $15. on emailed receipt "to save us from the hassle of paying for public parking." Very annoying and not made clear when checking in/out. Also, be aware that rooms are quite small, but very clean. Overall, okay experience but not what we expected for an Element Hotel."
"Don’t waste your money. I stayed here for family weekend figuring I’d spend the extra money for the location. What a waste of money. For almost $700 (!!!!!) a night the hotel and room was very basic. Floor was dirty. There was often no one at reception and when they were, they were dressed like slobs. Upon check-in they informed us that they only make up the rooms every other day. At almost $700 per night (more than I’ve ever spent anywhere before in my life) I want my bed made! So I requested it and confirmed it in the morning. When I got back to the room in the afternoon, you guessed it—no made up bed. If you want more towels you have to go to the lobby and get them yourself. What a rip off. As it turned out, the location didn’t really matter b/c there was plenty of parking and I could’ve driven here for the same result. Never again."
"When we checked into our room there was broken glass on the bed frame along with floss on the floor. It was late, called the front desk and there was no one available to clean it up until the next morning at 9:30 AM. Next morning 10:30 still had not cleaned it up. Tried to find a manager but was not able to. 3:30 STILL was not cleaned up. Talked to a manager and said it would be done right away. An hour later was still not done. Finally found housekeeping to clean it up. 24 hours after we found glass in our room and dirty floss to get cleaned up. Kept promising it would be done but kept getting excuses. Besides the glass and dirty floss the location is great, lobby is nice and breakfast was good. Front desk staff was very limited and hard to find help."
"Went here with my husband and daughter. When we woke up that morning, my daughter was covered in red spots due to the chemicals they use with their sheets. We ended up taking her to the ER to make sure she was okay and to help the rash go down. We went to the manager and asked for a refund and she looked us right in the eyes and said no. My baby girl’s face, legs, arms- her whole body was covered in red bumps but the manager did not seem to care at all!!! We ended up going right next door to the fabulous Hilton Garden Inn where their sheets and towels caused no rash for my daughter. They were nice, kind, and sympathetic to our situation next door. Definitely recommend the Hilton than the Element. Also, for breakfast they show on their website how it’s free and healthy/ organic. Well, they didn’t even have any meat! No bacon, no sausage! Even the pancakes were gluten free and tasted weird. I get if you have gluten issues, then yeah, but to not offer something else for the other guests? This hotel needed more options and better staff! So rude and terrible experience. NEVER going back!"
