"As a physical therapy private practice owner, I’ve been in-network with Ohana Health Plan for > 5 years. They used to be decent in terms of approving sessions for physical therapy as well as reimbursement. Over the past 2 years, they have changed their policies significantly to boost their bottom line at the expense of their members and healthcare providers. Since I only know the PT side, I can give a few examples for my specific profession. When patients come in for the first visit, they require prior authorization to continue treatment. The authorization request has to be sent to them within 2 days or else they won’t accept it. Once they receive it it can take up to 2-4 weeks for them to respond, often times the request just gets lost period, so the patient never gets services approved. Also, the reimbursement rate has declined significantly for physical therapy services. It’s getting to a point that most PT clinics no longer accept their insurance plan because the amount they pay no longer covers the cost of doing business! If you are considering choosing Ohana as your health insurance, I’d recommend other companies that put more value into patient care and respect for the providers they work with."

"Inconsistent service. Sometimes I love them, and sometimes I hate them, like now. They got me in with the 10$ item every month, but are loosing me with the service. The first person I talked to was super helpful. I had called because my kid was assigned a doctor that wasn't accepting patients. They changed it and told me to make an appointment in a few days, the change will be done. Gave it a few days and called to make an appointment, talked to the receptionist for about 30min before she told me my kid's doctor isn't listed, no appointments can be made. She told me simply to call the insurance and tell them to notify straub that they will cover. Called the insurance thinking this will be easy, the last person called at least 5 doctors for me last time trying to help. This time a different person answers, says that I can go to the doctor and they'll cover, but refuses to call straub. He tells me to have THEM call the insurance. I've explained that they will not accept my kid until the insurance calls. They say insurance companies call all the time. There is a long long silence, and I even say "hello?" and the guy answers with the same: have them call me. Fast forward, straub refuses to make an appointment, unless I pay out of pocket. This phone tag was absolutely ridiculous and the stars I did give are only for the first person who I had talked to a week ago."
